The venue for House committee hearing on High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) must be conducted in Negros Occidental, so it will be easier for all stakeholders of the dollar-earning sugar industry to air their sentiments on the interest of the industry and they will no longer travel to Manila.

This was the proposal of Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya having requested the Committee on Agriculture to hold the hearing here.

Engr Mario Macatangay, general manager of Bacolod City Water district (BACIWA) filed his bail bond 3pm Friday, March 10, amounting to P6,000.00 for his temporary liberty, after the Municipal Trial Court in Cities issued a warrant of arrest against him that was served by elements of Police Station 1, as a result of the case for grave oral defamation, filed against him by former BACIWA GM Atty Juliana Carbon.

More than 500 residents of the Municipality of Cauayan availed of free medical and dental services, and were given medicines, during the conduct of a Medical/Dental Outreach Program spearheaded by the Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO), Friday.

A live-in partner was both killed while five other co-passengers and the driver were injured when they were hit from behind by a speeding Toyota Vios driven by a drunk in Burgos Extension at Barangay Granada around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, March 11.

Police Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, Police Station 5 chief identified the victims as Jocel Dimapula Tumulac, 26 who was working at Robinson’s Place here; and Roy Pranilla Seballero, 29 and worked at Jade Court Motel here. Both were residents of Hacienda Conchita in Barangay Granada.

A Negros Occidental official has suggested that in order for the peace talks between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front to productively move forward, “there should be a mediation and not just negotiations.”

The division commander of the 3rd Infantry Spearhead Division of the Philippine Army believes that the recruitment of new members of the New People’s Army in the NIR are “declining.”

Major General Jon Aying said that they have been monitoring the recruitment activities of rebels in the NIR.

“The decline of their recruitment activities is a result of many enlightenment of the people that war is no the solution to their grievances towards government,” Aying said.

At the recent preliminary conference, the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) has directed both Bacolod congressman Greg Gasataya and former Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, to submit their respective memorandum within 15 days starting March 7, which falls on March 22.

During the said conference, they should define their position and issues to be resolved.

Gasataya was represented by his lawyer Karol Jospeh Thiu, while Sayson was also represented by legal counsel Eduardo Padios.

The Regional Enforcement Unit of Region-18 arrested a drug suspect in Silay City, while three drug suspects were arrested in a drug buy bust at Barangay San Teodoro in Binalbagan Friday.

Police Inspector Joey Mara of the Regional Enforcement Unit of Region-18 led the team that arrested Randolph Amper Pontillano, 24, of Phase 2, St. Francis Subdivision in Silay City.

He was arrested at Abad Santos Street in Barangay 5, Silay City in Negros Occidental around 4:15 in the afternoon Friday.

Police operatives of Police Station 6 arrested a drug suspect in buy bust operation Friday evening at corner Mabini-Rosario Streets in Barangay 33 here.

Police chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, Police Station 6 chief identified suspect as the Reggie Lampria, 36, single of Purok Lerio in Barangay Taculing.

Lampria was divested of one elongated sachet of suspected shabu as buy bust item in exchange for P200 marked money. Another big sachet of suspected shabu was confiscated from him and P150 cash proceeds.

A farmer was hacked and shot dead by a neighbour in Sitio Manumbala at Barangay Camansi in Kabankalan City Wednesday morning.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP chief identified the victim as Poloncio Balinas Dumdum, 26, single of the said place. He sustained hack wound on his shoulder and two gunshot wounds in the stomach.

He was shot with the use of improvised 12-gauge shot gun locally known as “sulpak” and declared dead-on-arrival in the nearest hospital.

The victim’s brother even saw the killing but the suspect immediately escaped.

An elementary school teacher of Cabacungan Elementary School in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana town was stabbed dead by a drunk person he pacified while activity in the school was going on around 11:20 in the evening Friday.

Police Senior Inspector Jerry Nacion, La Castellana PNP chief identified the victim as Nonie Octavio, 31 of Barangay Camandag also in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

A man was killed when struck with an iron pipe along the National Highway of Purok Bagong Buhay in Barangay Poblacion, Toboso town in Negros Occidental around 4:45 in the afternoon Friday due to old grudge.

Police chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Toboso PNP chief identified the victim as Niño Valencia Aguilar, 38, single of Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Poblacion in Toboso town.

He sustained head injury a d rushed to Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial district hospital in Escalante City but pronounced dead-on-arrival.

A motorcycle thief was killed when bumped by a car that pursued him while another pedestrian was also killed when side swept by passenger jeep both in Barangay Estefania here Thursday night.

Police Station 4 head, Chief Inspector Elmer Bonilla identified the two victims as Mario Flores of Celina Homes, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City and Bryan Chavez, 26 of Purok Kagaykay in Barangay 2, also of Bacolod City.
