SAGAY CITY - The 21st Sinigayan Festival slated on March 15-19, 2017 with the theme, “Where love for nature begins” kicked off with the Grand Opening Parade spearheaded by Mayor Alfredo D. Marañon III and Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr. with the Sinigayan Foundation President Engr. Primitivo Rivera, Jr., Undersecretary for Local Government Austere A. Panadero of the Department of Interior and Local Government, a native of Brgy. Fabrica, of this city was the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the Opening Program at the city Public Plaza. Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. also gave a message. The ribbon cutting and opening of the festival villages followed – Bugay Sagay Agro-Aqua Festival Village, Dagway- Sagay Arts and Culture Village, Tali-ambong Food and Entertainment Village, and Livestock and Poultry Fair Exhibit.

Rodolfo Quizon, Jr., son of the famous late comedian Dolphy, urged drug dependents to abandon the use of illegal drugs for it will not bring anything in life but menace.

Dolphy Jr. was guest speaker at the anti drug seminar with the former drug dependents held at the BAYS Center yesterday afternoon, March 15, conducted by the City Anti Drug Abuse Council (CADAC).

The San Sebastian Cathedral will have a series of Lenten Sundown reflections every Thursday starting March 16, 2017. This will focus on various topics that will help the faithful to celebrate the Lenten Season. The venue is on the Cathedral extension wing. The reflections will be held after the 6PM Mass. The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental turned over checks worth a total of P6.9 million that will be used in the implementation of projects for the 22 different barangays in the province.

The Department of Health (DOH) has ordered all chiefs of government hospitals to make available doctors and support staffs available in their facilities 24 hours a day.

Dr. Herminigildo Valle, Undersecretary of Health of the Office for Field Implementation Management, in memorandum ordered that medical personnel be made available especially “in local and government hospitals that either do not have or merely being visited by medical professionals.”

Pace-setters Class ’85 topped bracket “A” during the game opener of the bracketing finals on Saturday in the ongoing 2017 NOHS @ 115 - NOHSAAI “Unity Cup” Bowling Fellowship at Negros Super Lanes.

C’85 with powerhouse player Iran Pielago gathered a triple score of 1,495 pin falls including a three game output of 481-489-525.

Trailing behind are running 2nd C’94 led by Toto Flores with 1,488 pfs; while at 3rd C’90 led by Mark Andren with 1,454 pfs.

Jasper Quimanhan captured the February title in the recently-concluded Tenpin Masters Challenge (TMC) Season Three championship shootout at East Bowling Center, Lopue’s East Centre in Bacolod City.

Second seed Quimanhan outworked top seed Paul Pacis in the final game, 190-168. He bowled an average score of 196 pin falls.

Quimanhan is one of the products of the Sugarbowl Tenpin Association Inc.’s (STAI) summer bowling clinic.

On the other hand, 4th seed Teody Chavoso defeated 3rd seed Jam Morales to finish 2nd runner-up. The score was 208-180.

A resident of Purok Masagana, Barangay 6, Bacolod City was shot by two riding-in-tandem at the place yesterday morning.

Police Station 2 head, Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias identified the victim as Hasan Fajardo Yacob, 56, married. He sustained a gunshot wound at the back that exited to his stomach.

Investigation disclosed that the victim went outside his house to urinate when two suspects appeared. Sensing that he was the subject of the two, he rushed back inside his house but was shot on the back.

Four alleged drug suspects were arrested by elements of Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU)-18 and Silay City PNP along Rizal Highway, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City Tuesday afternoon.

The RDEU-18 led by Inspector Joey Mara under supervision of Superintendent Robert Lingbawan arrested Jeremy Jolito Saura, 24, of Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City; Elimer Toledo Solano, 37, of Kalye 11, Silay City; Paul John Johnson, 24, of Barangay Suba, Calatrava; and Eric Cahil, 18, of Employees Subdivision, Silay City.

An alleged noted notorious power pilferer in downtown Bacolod is now facing criminal charge before the RTC Branch 54, for violating the anti-pilferage law.

According to Sulpicio Lagarde, Jr., general manager of CENECO, a certain Cilbert Parreño was caught red-handed by CENECO men in the presence of police authorities sometime February this year.

As observed by both the leadership of Bacolod City government and the management of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO), the city is beset with soaring power bills due to rampant power pilferage, thus both entities have joined forces to monitor the perpetrators.

According to Sulpicio Lagarde, Jr., general manager of CENECO, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has decided to put an end to illegal connections in the streetlights which the City is paying for.

Lagarde also said, the payment of the City is coming in regularly already.

The management and members of the Board of Directors of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) are again at odds over when to conduct a referendum on its joining Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).

“We want to save cost,”Ceneco president Arnel Lapore said on why they want to hold the referendum during their Annual General Membership Assembly on April 30.

However, General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said doing so is “not feasible” and “we [might] violate some rules.”

A registered nurse assigned in Cadiz City Health Office was arrested by Cadiz City PNP while his two suppliers were also arrested in Victorias City Tuesday.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City OIC police chief identified the suspect as Clifford Estilo, 26 years old, single, resident of Barangay 5, Victorias City

Estilo was in his car when he handed to a poseur-buyer the suspected shabu in exchange of P300 marked money around 10: a.m. along Cabahug Street, Barangay Zone 3 in front of Cadiz City Health Office.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has the most number of job order (JO) workers at 138 of the total number of contractual employees in the provincial government of Negros Occidental.

Based on data provided by provincial accountant Merle Fortu yesterday, the total of JO employed by Capitol in 2016 was 659.

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO)–Negros Occidental will spearhead a recruitment activity tomorrow, March 17, 2017 at Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) Gymnasium in Talisay City.

A number of POEA-licensed recruitment agencies will be hiring nurses, skilled workers, drivers, engineers, heavy equipment operators, service crew, among others, to work at United Kingdom, Middle East, and Japan.
