Secretary Michael Lloyd “Mike” Dino, the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas will be the guest of honor and speaker during the 81st induction ceremony of Negros Press Club on April 8, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center at 6:30 p.m.

Dino is the chairman of Art Tabang, an organization that helps virtual artists in the country to flourish in their unique, creative God-given talents.

He is also the chairman of MUGSTORIA, a virtual rendezvous of social media storytellers, which has been very active in documenting the life story of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Department of Education (DeEd) has announced the playing venues for the weeklong event dubbed as “2017 Palarong Pambansa: Converges Youth Power, Builds Sustainable Future” in Antique.

Around 12,000 student-athletes and coaches from 18 regions across the country are expected to flock the province for this weeklong event. The annual sports meet will kick off on April 23.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is currently conducting investigation on the 15 pangolins found dead and frozen at Barangay 2 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental reported on March 17, Friday.

Nearly 6,000 stakeholders of the country’s sugar industry called for a boycott of all products of beverage giant Coca-Cola and for the ouster of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol in a rally yesterday in front of the company’s Bacolod plant.

A son discovered his mother lifeless at their owned boarding house in La Salle Avenue, Barangay Villamonte at dawn Sunday.

Police Senior Inspector Elmer Bonilla, Police Station 4 head with jurisdiction in the area, identified the victim was Virginia Sumagan, 69 years old, widow, resident of the place.

She was believed strangle to death using a handkerchief and bitten on her arm by still unidentified suspect.

The victim was found by her son Joseph upon his arrival at the house where they too are staying with his family at around 2:00 in the morning Sunday.

A passenger jeep driver was shot along Purok Camansi, Circumferential Road, Barangay Banago around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 19.

Police senior inspector Larry Teovisio, Police Station 3 head identified the victim as Efraim Payas, 43, married, native of Talisay City. He was residing with his family in Purok Tinagong Paraiso, Barangay Banago.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body and died on the spot.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod City approved the resolution of Councilor Sonya Verdeflor in Wednesday’s session, urging all Bacolodnons to join the global community in celebrating Earth Hour on Saturday, March 25, 2017 by switching off the electrical light from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. This is to send a strong message to take action on global warming.

Verdeflor said, earth hour is a worldwide grassroots movement uniting people to protect the planet earth, which is organized by the World Wildlife Fund.

Roy Cordova, who was earlier disqualified to run for election in the board of directors of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) for having unsettled obligations with the Cooperative, was re-qualified by the screening committee after he has settled his obligations.

Cordova will run as director for District IV (Bacolod East).

District 4 (Bacolod East) covers Brgys. Villamonte, Montevista, Estefania, Alangilan, Granada, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan and Abkasa, while District 5 (Bacolod West) covers Brgys. 8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,21,34,35,36,37,38,38 and Singcang.
