As per instruction by the OIC-CENR Officer, Mavee B. Ponciano and Joelan E. Luberas, Forest Technicians II and I, respectively and with proper coordination with the MENR Officer of LGU Cauayan, conducted verification regarding the reported stranded marine sea turtle at Sitio Mabua, Brgy. Poblacion, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.


The dead marine sea turtle was taken by the residents during the actual sighting last March 16, 2017.*

Soldier turned politician Magdalo Partylist Representative Gary Alejano was in Bacolod City yesterday, March 21, and discussed issues of the day and recent developments after he filed an impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte last March 16.

Alejano stressed two major points as to where the lodged complaint are rooted and cited the ongoing extra judicial killings (EJK) and allegedly the President having amassed wealth which violate the Constitution of the Republic.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will launch “surprise” inspections on all establishments in Negros Occidental to ensure compliance with the increase in the daily minimum wage of P15 to 25.

DOLE-Negros Island Region (NIR) director Cyril Ticao said the new minimum wage took effect on March 16.

The workers have the right to receive just wages corresponding to the kind of jobs they do, Ticao said.

“We are ready to take necessary actions, including the filing of charges and imposing penalties, against violators,” he added.

A man who failed to come home on Sunday was found dead by his daughter inside a sugarcane field in Purok VRESCO, Sitio Alegria, Barangay Tinampaan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City OIC police chief identified the victim as Jesus Beltran Bantiling, 65, married, resident of the said place.

He was found by his daughter, Maricel Bantiling Pajarde, 34, who was about to wait for a passenger vehicle to go to the market in Cadiz City.

Reacting to the statement of Representative Roger Mercado, chair, committee on Constitutional Amendments who led the conduct of public hearing on constitutional reform on Friday, March 17, in Bacolod City, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran would rather go for the outright conduct of barangay election. If the postponement will push through, Familiaran said, this is the second time that the barangay election is postponed.

“We hope the election is done soonest,” he said.

A man was shot dead by four suspects due to land conflict on Monday in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City.

Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez, OIC Police Chief of Himamaylan City PNP identified the victim as Arman Matutina, “Alias Macoy”, 48, married, resident of Sitio Ruiz, Barangay Libacao, Himamaylan City.

He sustained gunshot wounds on the head and other parts of the body and was rushed to Gov. Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

The fourth kiosk in Western Visayas relative to the ASEAN Meet is at the SM City-Bacolod installed by the Public Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office.

The opening on Monday, March 20, was attended by various agencies and sectors, with Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, representing Mayor Evelio Leonardia as guest speaker.

Familiaran said, the kiosk will serve as center of information on the ASEAN, as the people from different nations gather which means unity.

A farmer was shot dead by fellow farmer due to conflict in irrigation in Purok Tuburan, Barangay Minoyan, Murcia town on Monday evening.

Police Senior Inspector Hector Balbon, Murcia PNP OIC police identified the victim as Agosto Delman, 49, married, resident of the place.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body from an improvised 12-gauge shotgun locally known as “sulpak”.

The suspect was identified as James Solis, of legal age, also resident of the place.
