The Philippines is facing sanctions from the United States (US) and the European Union (EU) over the alleged human rights violations being committed by the present administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ismael Sueno said yesterday.

In a press conference at the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) meetings at the SMX Convention Center, Sueno explained the Philippines is currently part of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) fund, which was started in 2011 by the US.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is grateful to the ASEAN leaders for choosing Bacolod to host the 15th meeting. Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano is not alone in his move to impeach President Rodrigo Duterte.

Alejano said there are some members of the House of Representatives who signify their intention to join him.

However, he was told that they have to see and read first the impeachment complaint.

Alejano in a press conference Tuesday did not divulge the numbers but he will give them time to speak, whether to support or not the impeachment complaints.

The House of Representatives will resume its session on May 2.

A driver was killed and his backrider injured when their driven motorcycle collided with a Ceres bus around 12:10 p.m. Tuesday along corner Lacson-Gustilo Streets, Barangay 2-A in Manapla town.

Chief Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla PNP chief identified the victim as John Michael Conol, single, of legal age, resident of Punta Mesa in the town.

Conol sustained head and body injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the town’s Municipal Health Office.

Stop the blame game.

This was the reaction of Atty. Emilio Yulo, spokesperson of the Sugar Alliance of the Philippines to Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol.

“He should be man enough to own up to whatever problems the sugar industry is facing and not play the blame game,” Yulo said.

In a post on his Facebook account, Pinol hit back at the sugar industry for being “spoiled brats.”

A woman who was riding at the back of a passenger tricycle was pinned to death along the national highway of Barangay Malusay, Guilhungan City, Negros Oriental Tuesday.

Guilhungan City PNP identified the victim as Neolita Gomez, 47, married, resident of Barangay Binayonan, Guilhungan City.

Their passenger tricycle fell to the canal in the area, pinning her beneath. She sustained head and body injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the city district hospital.

About 20.31 grams of suspected shabu was confiscated by police operatives from three suspects in a buy bust around 5:00 p.m. Monday at Purok Mahogany, Barangay 1, San Carlos City.

Operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Negros Island Region (NIR) and San Carlos City PNP conducted the buy bust against the three suspects who are in the drug watch list of the city police.

They are identified as Jonathan Gonzales Ibañez, 44, and his brother, Crispin, Jr., 32, and tricycle driver Noel Escorial Hernandez, 42, residents of the place.
