The 18th Division of the Court of Appeals (CA) Visayas Station issued a Writ of Preliminary Injunction (WPI) regarding an Ombudsman decision on Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Leonardia posted a P100,000 bail.

The promulgation was dated March 22, 2017, signed by Associate Justice Germano Francisco D. Legaspi, concurred by Executive Justice Gabriel T. Ingles, and Associate Justice Marilyn B. Lagura-Yap.

The weakened Philippine Peso against the US Dollar pushed up prices of coal and diesel fuel, resulting to higher generation costs equivalent to P1.26 as reflected in the latest residential monthly billing of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO).

Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO) informs its consumers that the residential rate for March 2017 billing is P11.1669/kwh; a P1.6631/kWh increase from last month’s P9.5038/kWh.

The upward adjustment in CENECO’s effective rate can be attributed to the increase in the Generation Charge of P1.2595 and system loss charge of P0.1774. The movements in foreign currency exchange had also an impact in the rate increase, affecting fuel cost of coal-fired power plants.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. has ordered the 60-day preventive suspension of Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Igmedio Tabianan effective March 21.

In a memorandum order dated on the same date, Marañon said, “after careful evaluation of the allegations and evidence available and presented, this office concludes that a prima facie case for administrative offenses of grave misconduct/ malversation of public funds exist against you.”

The Fil-Sino Athletic Club will be holding its 2nd inter-color basketball tournament for 2017.

Games will start on Monday, March 27 and will be played at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Dubbed as the All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament, it will be composed of 10 teams and will be classified under Class A and Class B categories from the company’s transport, sugar and trading divisions.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R), Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS), and Living Stone International School (LSIS) share lead in the Under 16 Girls division in the ongoing 25th NOVA-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championship at Silay City Plaza and Silay City gym.

UNO-R led Bracket A with a 3-0 card followed by St. John’s Institute (SJI) and Silay City with 2-1 record each then St. Benilde School (SBS) with 1-3 and La Consolacion College (LCC) with 0-3 slate.

Geothermal giant Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is joining the global celebration of Earth Hour tomorrow, Saturday and enjoins everyone to be one in combating climate change.

EDC has, through the years, supported Earth Hour in all its offices nationwide and hopes that the country will once again be on the map as among those who actively supports this campaign that promotes not only conservation, but awareness about climate change.

A drug pusher from Silay City was caught in a drug buy bust in Barangay 6 (Hawaiian), Silay City around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Superintendent Willy Diel, Silay City OIC Police Chief said they identified the suspect as Michael Uberas, 35, married, resident of the place.

He was caught by the City Drug Enforcement Unit of Silay City PNP.

Confiscated from him was one medium size suspected shabu in exchange of P500 marked money.

Two more elongated and three small sachets of suspected shabu were confiscated from him and other drug paraphernalia.

A dance trainor was found dead at Purok Tuburan, Barangay Cayhagan, Sipalay City around 9:50 a.m. Monday.

Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas, Sipalay City PNP OIC chief identified the victim as Christopher Jusos Grande, 25, single.

Vargas said he was discovered dead in his room by his friend Stanley Quinicum.

He was believed to have suffered cardiac arrest as no wounds were found on his body.

A fragmentation grenade was found in a house by a mason that was digging the ground to be built with cemented wall in Purok White Lady, Barangay Araal, La Carlota City Monday afternoon.

Superintendent Crescenciano Cordero, La Carlota City PNP OIC chief said that Cris Espino Pamolino, 40, turned over the grenade to police authorities when told by the compound owner Nelda Udani Valenzuela, 67.

Valenzuela was surprised of the find claiming that the place has no World War II history.

The leader of the alleged Berya Drug Group is planning to surface and execute an affidavit, her former paymaster said.

In an interview by Bombo Radyo-Bacolod Wednesday, bagman Ricky Serenio said her former boss Berya Tolentino “is getting tired of being named amid the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs.”

Serenio pointed out that Berya Tolentino is not a big druglord in Negros Occidental, but rather the group’s main supplier only identified as “Camaria.”
