Fireballs squad took the lead during the season 3 opener of the 2017 KMH Inter-Squad Trios Duckpin Bowling League at Negros Super Lanes (NSL) on Friday.

Despite losing steam last season, Fireballs headed by master bowler Lois Palenge knocked down a triple score of 936 pin falls. They had a 3-game output of 305-292-339.

A top executive of the firm that won the contract to supply bulk water to the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) insisted, “there is nothing irregular in their winning the project.”

Antonio Carmelo P. Tompar, Chairman & CEO of Mactan Rock Industries Inc., in a statement said he is reacting to the issues raised by a Bacolod City columnist “regarding our contract to supply bulk water to Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA).”

Tompar said that “no under-the-table agreement was ever made so this project can proceed.”

An anti-crime and corruption group was asked by 15 dismissed Talisay City employees to help them before the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Office of the Ombudsman central office to hasten the resolution of cases regarding their dismissal.

John Chiong, Task Force Crusaders (TFC) national deputy commander, in a press conference said he will personally hand carry the letter to CSC Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol must see the issue of the unabated entry of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) as “an economic as social issue,” Negros Occidental Board Member Alain Gatuslao said yesterday.

Gatuslao was reacting to the recent statements of Ilonggo Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri admonishing Pinol to stop “politicizing” the problem that has beset the local sugar industry.

Four drug suspects were nabbed and another escaped in separate drug busts in Cadiz City, Moises Padilla and Bago City on Sunday.

In Cadiz City, two drug suspects riding on a motorcycle was intercepted along Gustilo Boulevard, Barangay Zone 2 in a drug buy bust around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP chief identified the suspects as Ivan Klein Burda Hulleza, 29, single, of Villa Luisa, Barangay Luna, Cadiz City; and Benjie Diaz Barcenilla, 42, married, of Purok Malipayon, Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City.

An alleged drug pusher in Silay City, Negros Occidental was arrested in a buy bust and raid at his house in Antonio Luna Interior, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City Saturday.

Superintendent Willy Diel, Silay City PNP chief identified the suspect as Andrew Hofileña Jarder, 29, “Alias Michael Perez” and ”Alias Iyog,” resident of the place.

Before the raid, the suspect was caught in a drug bust after he handed one elongated sachet of suspected shabu in exchange of P500 marked money.

Negros Occidental lacks doctors willing to be deployed to its 11 hospitals.

Dr. Leonardo Eusebio, provincial administrator yesterday said that they are currently evaluating the needs of each hospital “depending on its bed capacity.”

Eusebio said government doctors receive at least P40,000 as regular pay which is smaller than what they will receive in private practice.

“That is why we hire consultants especially those who are surgeons and into internal medicine to make up for the lack of regular doctors in the district hospitals,” he also said.

Many natural resources in Negros are endangered, according to Al Orolfo, Regional Director, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Negros Island Region (NIR), during the 9th Earth Hour celebration hosted by SM City Bacolod over the weekend, with its theme, “Endangered,” because we are losing most of our resources. This is the 9th year of Earth Hour celebration, themed, “Shine a Light on Climate Action”.

Orolfo said, there are three main issues to address this earth hour: climate change, use of fossil fuel, and loss of habitat.

According to DOLE Region 6 Director Henry Jalbuena, also RCC Chairman, this project is now on its second year and aims to recognize the outstanding performance of significant contributions of workers/employees in their companies.

Roy Cordova is now back as director of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) after he was re-elected unopposed during the special election for District IV, conducted at the sole polling precinct in the main office of CENECO at Mabini Street, Bacolod City.

District IV area includes Barangays Villamonte, Montevista, Estefania, Granada, Alangilan Vista Alegre, Mansilingan, and Abkasa.
