The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded commuters not to ride colorum vehicles not only during the vacation season.

Lawyer Joscet Abellar, LTFRB-6 director said they are issuing the reminder as commuters are expected to flock to the various bus terminals in Negros Occidental for the long holiday break.

Negros Occidental will be a recipient of multi- million infrastructure projects from the Rodrigo R. Duterte administration, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino, said.

Dino, speaking during the 81st Induction and Oath-taking Ceremonies of the Negros Press Club, said Negros Island Region “is not excluded from the Visayas infrastructure projects.”

The fight for the retention of the Negros Island Region (NIR) has a ray of hope as Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino Saturday said that he wants Negros leaders to submit to him their position paper so he could present it during the next Cabinet meeting.

“The NIR has been a problem, a confusion,” Dino, who was the guest speaker and inducting officer during the 81st Induction Ceremonies of the Negros Press Club in Bacolod City, said.

La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor- Mangilumutan will ask the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) to discuss with the local government unit to determine what to do about the existence of Palawan Cherry Blossom.

Mangilimutan issued the statement following comments on social media from environmentalists saying that the flowers should be eradicated because “it is exotic and bad for biodiversity.”

A helper of a meat shop at Brgy. Sum-ag Public Market in Bacolod was killed while about to close the store Saturday evening.

Police Chief Inspector Rolly Pondevilla, Police Station 9 chief identified the victim as Danilo Panganiban, 38, married and resident of Brgy. Dulao, Bago City.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police is still trying to establish the motive of the killing.

Energy Development Corp. (EDC) plans to plant one million more trees in Negros this year, EDC Vice-President and Negros Island Geothermal Business Unit head, Jay Joel Soriano, said.

Soriano said that this is aside from the one million planted last year.

He said that under the company’s BINHI greening legacy program, EDC aims to plant 10 million trees and nurture them in the next 10 years.

The Regional Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-18) arrested an electrician and others while two were able to escape, in a drug bust operation at Purok Kagaykay in Barangay 2, Bacolod Wednesday evening.

Arrested were Jake Aguas, 38 of Almaciga Street, Canlaon View Subdivision in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia; William Alcachupas Macapagal, 50, and Michael Feria, 36 - all of Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2.

Those who escaped were Celeste Panaligan and Mark Line Jamantoc, all of the place.

PDEA-18 was led by Intelligence Officer 2 Ramil Patigas.

The number 1 most wanted person in Himamaylan City was finally arrested Wednesday afternoon at the highway of Barangay Tooy, in the city.

Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez, OIC police chief of Himamaylan PNP identified the suspect as Jeffrey Singbin, 33 of Sitio Riles-Cagay in Brgy. Suay, in the city.

He was ordered arrested by Presiding Judge Franklin Demonteverde of the Regional Trial Court, Branch- 55 in Himamaylan for the crime of six counts of rape.

The court denied bail bond for the temporary liberty of the suspect.

A motorcycle riding man was killed while another one was injured when they collided along barangay road of Barangay San Jose in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental Friday.

The victim was identified as Jason Villacarlos, 38 and resident of Barangay San Jose, Tanjay. He sustained head and body injuries and was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Roberto Fernandez, legal age and resident of Tanjay was injured and was also rushed to the Silliman University Medical Center for treatment.

Three suspects were arrested in two separate drug buy busts - in Barangay Mansilingan and in Barangay Singcang, all in Bacolod, Saturday.

Warren Gerilo, 36, single and Rez Peroa, 30, single –all of Purok Kabugwason in Mansilingan were arrested by Police Station 7 and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit operatives around 4:45 in the afternoon Sunday.

Confiscated from them were, small sachet of suspected shabu as buy bust item in exchange of P200 marked money, and three elongated sachets of suspected shabu.

They are detained at Police Station 7.

One of the shooting victims at Phase 4 of Purok NHA in Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod last April 5 at 2:30 a.m., died April 8 in the morning at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Senior Inspector Wilfredo Denoman, Police Station 8 chief, said he was informed by one the victim’s family that Mark Cliff Melligen, 22 of Purok Bantud in Pahanocoy expired.

A senior citizen and a Person With Disability (PWD) were killed in separate car and motorcycle crashes in Ilog town and in Bayawan City in Negros, Saturday and Friday.

In Ilog, the victim was identified by Chief Inspector Nerlito Lobrido, Ilog PNP chief , as Anacleto Catacata, 83 years old and resident of Barangay Calubang in Ilog.

He was hit by a passing vehicle when he crossed the road in the barangay Saturday noon. It was a hit and run.
