Negros Occidental is not putting its guards down considering during the upcoming Panaad Festival set to kick off on April 22.

“We need to be vigilant and of course, prayers,” Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

However, he did not say whether he will request for additional military and police troops to secure the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City where the nine-day event is held.

The Governor added that he expects more guests and visitors in this year’s version of the festival.

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. called for the dismissal of two complaints filed before the Office of the Ombudsman (Visayas), for being “patently baseless and unfounded”.

Marañon filed his counter-affidavit dated April 7 in the case involving the Negros First Ranch in Murcia.

He is one of the respondents in OB-V-C 17-0100 for violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act and OMB-V-A 170083 for dishonesty and grave misconduct.

Following the death of Mayor Enrique Montilla III of Isabela on Holy Thursday, Vice Mayor Joselito Malabor took his oath as Montilla’s successor, before Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday morning.

A farmer who was sleeping inside his house in Barangay Batuan, La Carlota City was stabbed dead by a fish vendor around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

La Carlota City PNP police investigator identified the victim as Ricardo Asoy, 54, married, also resident of the place. He sustained stab wound in the chest and was rushed to Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in the city. The suspect was identified as Cielito Seruelo, Jr., 53, a fish vendor, resident of the barangay. He remains at large.

Meanwhile, JSY Transport hold off a hard charging AACI Trading in the 4th quarter to escape also with a hard earned, 81-77 victory in Class A division.

Sweet Crystals Sugar Roger Montalbo and Noriel Bermudez free throws broke a 60-all and relied on their solid defence to thwart the Organic Solutions challenge.

Bacolod Lone District Congressman Greg Gasataya asked members of the National Association of Public Secondary Schools of the Philippines (NAPSSPHIL), Inc. composed of public schoool principals from around the country to continue to be the inspiration of the students and molders of youth.

This was the message given by Gasataya as he delivered an inspirational mssage to participants of the three-day First Principals’ National Congress on K to 12 which opened yesterday, April 17 at the SMX Convention Center Bacolod City.

A man committed suicide due to depression at his house in Hacienda San Benito, Barangay Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla. His body was found 5:00 A.M. Sunday.

Senior Inspector Allan Reloj, Moises Padilla PN chief identified the victim as Ronilo Alibo Castillo, 39, single, resident of the place.

He used a rope to hang himself by the neck. He was declared dead on arrival at the nearest hospital.

In Silay City, another 39-year-old victim was also killed by hanging at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Sitio Bara, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City.

Two brothers and their cousin ganged up their neighbor in Purok Patuloy, Zone 4, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Superintendent Willy Diel, OIC Chief of Police of Silay City identified the victim as Marlon Tusias Buencochillo, 30, resident of the said place.

He sustained multiple stab wounds and was declared dead on arrival at Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City by Dr. Ma. Mahal Gange.

Two persons were drowned in Cadiz City Sunday and in Murcia on Good Friday, police report disclosed.

Police Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, Cadiz City PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as April Ugahayon Licaros, 33, cook, native of San Carlos City, Negros occidental and temporarily residing at Juan Luna Street, Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City.

Licaros, with his family and friends went swimming in Kabilang-bilangan Reef located in Barangay Daga, Cadiz City. The victim was allegedly drunk when he went for a swim.
