The labor sector in Negros Occidental continues to doubt the claims of beverage giant Coca-Cola FEMSA on its claims that its bottling facility in Bacolod City has been producing beverages with 100 percent locally-sourced sugar since 1998 when the facility opened, calling it a “deception.”

Winnie Sancho, secretary general of the General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) said the claims of the company is “a strategy that would serve as a face-saving mechanism because they had already felt the adverse affect of the boycott against their products.”

A policeman who was sideswept by the car of an Aglipayan priest, died in a hospital while being treatment for injuires he sustained in that incident Thursday, April 20 at Crossing Pulupandan, Brgy. Mabini in Pulupandan town.

Sr. Insp. Alfred De Leon, Pulupandan PNP chief identified the victim as SPO2 Graciano Lozada Pineda, Jr., 56 of Ogatis Street, Brgy. 3, La Carlota City.Pineda was assigned at the Regional Headquarters Support Group at PRO-18 in Bacolod City.

The Philippine Army is ready for any terror group that may come in to Negros or any part of the Visayas, even as it denied reports that the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and the New People’s Army (NPA) have joined forces.

Major General Jon Aying, commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division covering covering the Visayas, said there is no collusion between ASG bandits and NPA rebels in a bid to pursue kidnap-for-ransom operations in the Visayas.

The Montilla family is open to any reconciliation with political rival Malabor clan, Isabela Councilor Patrick Miguel Montilla yesterday said.

“The family welcomes that,” Montilla said.

He pointed out that even when his brother, the late Mayor Enrique “Quito” Senen Montilla III, was alive, after the 2016 elections, “he called for a reconciliation.”

Montilla was reacting to the statement last week of Board Member Renato Malabor Jr, son of the slain board member and former mayor, that he was looking forward to reconciling with the Montillas.

A village official of Barangay Cabug in Bacolod City was one of the seven drug suspects arrested in a buy bust operation at Victorina Subdivision in Barangay Mansilingan at noon Saturday, April 22.

Police Chief Inspector Charles Gever, Police Station 7 head identified the Brgy. Cabug official as Vonkarlo De Paula, legal age and a Brgy. Kagawad of Barangay Cabug; Josan Sotengco, of Lot 2 Lot 5 of Providencia Subdivision in Barangay Alijis.

Sotengco is the subject of the buy bust when the six other were arrested having a pot session.

A man riding a motorcycle with another person under the influence of liquor had his vehicle skid and he fell into the pavement along Buri Road in front of Mountain View Subdivision’s gate in Mandalagan, Bacolod around 3:30 in the morning, Saturday.

Police traffic investigator of Police Station 3, PO3 Eliseo Andraneda identified the victim as Hernani Andol Mondia, 22, of Purok Tongoy in Brgy. Mandalagan.

The victim was with a driver, a certain “Ricky” who claimed that when they fell, a speeding Silver Toyota Vios overran him hitting his head.

A back-rider was killed and six other passengers of a tricycle were injured after it collided with a cargo truck along the highway of Manapla town Saturday afternoon.

Police chief Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla PNP chief identified the victim as Leopoldo Bacornay, 66 of Hacienda Tres Hermanas in Brgy. Luna, Cadiz City.

Bacornay was a back-rider while the six others were inside the tricycle driven by Hermilo Pablo on their way home after they attended a burial of a kin in Manapla.

For the meantime, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is holding on to his recommendation for Police Sr. Supt. Jack Wanky as police director of the City.

Wanky is one of the recommendees for the position submitted by Camp Crame to Leonardia for permanent appointment.

Although he is contented with the performance of Wanky since he assumed post as BCPO OIC last January, the mayor is yet to decide until illegal drug problems in the city are addressed.

Winless Basecom registered its first win against Sweet Crystals Sugar, 64-60; while top seed Royal Star Trading suffered its first lost at the hands of Organic Solutions, 73-65 all in Class B action.

Organic Solution took advantage of an undermanned Royal Star Trading in the nightcap to improve to 2-3 while dropping their victim to 4-1.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Bacolod office said the last day of registration of voters for the October SK and Barangay elections is April 29, 2017.

There is an on-going registration of voters at the COMELEC, according to Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia, for the October SK and barangay polls.

She said, they are conducting voters’ registration because there is no law yet passed postponing the elections, so the registration is going on until April 29.
