The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod is ready to investigate allegations that one of its members is protecting illegal gambling operations in the city.

Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said that they will discuss the issue in a caucus of councilors.

The issue of the alleged involvement of a city official rose after a group calling itself as “The True Crusaders” came up with a list last week claiming that a certain city official with initials “RN from SP” were on their list of officials protecting the operation of illegal gambling jai-alai.

Organizers of the ongoing 24th Panaad Festival at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansiligan, Bacolod City created a monitoring team to enforce the ban on the sale of Coca-Cola products during the duration of the nine-day event.

Lucille Gelvolea, acting provincial administrator, yesterday said the team is regularly going around the festival site to ensure the resolution passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) is implemented.

Atty. Arnel Lapore, CENECO president yesterday said, “we prefer to operate under the National Electrification Administration (NEA).”

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales recently ordered the “dismissal from the service” of former Bacolod City Councilor Carlos Jose V. Lopez.

The Office of the Ombudsman found Lopez administratively “Guilty of Grave Miscoduct” for issuing truck ban exemptions to certain truck companies and individuals operating within the city.

The Negros Island Region (NIR) elementary and secondary boys’ football teams are looking to secure the top spots in the ongoing 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique.

The elementary squad defeated Eastern Visayas in the opener, 3-0, followed by the Northern Mindanao, 4-1.They will face Cordillera Autonomous Region at 7AM today at the St. Anthony’s College for the opportunity to top Group C.

Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor today (April 24, 2017) said that he will ask for an extension from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in compliance for a sanitary landfill under Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Malabor said this is his priority after he assumed the mayoralty post due to the recent demise of Mayor Enrique Montilla III.

“We are long overdue,” Malabor said.

Two persons were killed in separate road crashes in Manapla and Valladolid towns Saturday afternoon.

In Manapla, a backrider died and six other passengers of a tricycle injured after they collided with a cargo truck along the highway of Manapla town Saturday afternoon.

Police Chief Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla PNP chief identified the victim as Leopoldo Bacornay, 66, of Hacienda Tres Hermanas in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City.

Bringing the cooperative closer to consumers, Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO), Inc. opened yesterday its third collection center in Bacolod City, located at East 2 Corporate Center, corner Diola-Circumferential Road in Brgy. Villamonte.

According to Sulpicio Lagarde, mJr., CENECO general manager, the Bacolod East Collection Center will cater to consumers in the surrounding areas like Homesite, Brgys. Villamonte, Sta. Fe, Fortune Towne, Granada, Alangilan, and others.
