The Negros Island Region (NIR) is safe, the police regional director said yesterday.

Chief Supt. Renato Gumban, director of Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) made the assurance following the attacks from the Abu Sayyaf terror group in neighboring Bohol province earlier this month.

Thirty eight aspiring bowlers participated in this year’s 3-day Summer Tenpin Bowling Clinic at Lopue’s East Bowling Center, Villamonte in Bacolod City on Monday.

Councilor Caesar Distrito, chair, committee on appropriations and finance resolved in the session of SP yesterday to extend financial rewards to the athletes of Bacolod City who are medalists in the Palarong Pambansa 2017 being held in the Province of Antique, in Panay Island. The SP approved this resolution.

Distrito said as of this time Bacolod City athletes have 25 medals. Bacolod City has the biggest delegation from Negros Island Region with 337 athletes.

A civil security of Moises Padilla town was shot dead by a policeman in civilian clothes in a vulcanizing shop along Caduhada Street in Barangay Robles, La Castellana at about 7:50 in the morning yesterday.

Police chief inspector Alan Gary Resuma, La Castellana PNP chiefsaid the victim was Jared Lavega, 20, of Moises Padilla. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body. He died on the spot.

The suspect was identified as PO3 Jose Michael Muñez, 33 years old and resident of La Castellana and assigned at the town’s police force.

Basecom won its 2nd game in the 2nd round by routing JSY Countertrade, 85-58 while Organic Solutions defeated Sweet Crystals Sugar 69-48 last Friday in Class B of the 2017 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-color basketball tournament at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Basecom Richard Co was unstoppable with his perimeter jumpers as he tallied 30 points; Cris Pascua added 25 point and Arvin Chua dropped 15.

Basecom erected a 45-21 halftime advantage as Co scored 14 with teammates Pascua and Chua combining for 16 points.

The unabated importation of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) by multi- national beverage companies in the country “is a labor issue”, Wennie Sancho, secretary general of the General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) said yesterday.

Sancho said they will bring the issue of HFCS during their rally on May 1.

“It is an issue of the labor sector because it involves the employment of workers in the sugar industry,” he said.

Local government Undersecretary Jesus ‘Jayvee’ Hinlo has submitted a memorandum Tuesday for the retention of the Negros Island Region (NIR) to the Office of the President (OP).

This was received by Ermila Moking of the OP, he said.

Hinlo said he submitted the memoranda in compliance to the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte last March 6, 2017.

He, however, refused to divulge the details of the memorandum.

Three alleged drug pushers were arrested in drug buy bust by the City Drug Enforcement Unit of Bacolod City Police Office and Police Station 6 at Purok Sunrise, Doña Juliana Heights Subdivision, Barangay Taculing in Bacolod City around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspects were identified as Lourdes Umadhay, 52, of Barangay 41; Alfred Joseph De Guzman, 27, of Barangay Taculing and Anthony Briones, 42, of Doña Juliana, Barangay Taculing.

A wanted person was finally arrested, and was denied bail by the court, following his arrest at about 2:10 Tuesday afternoon at Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City.

Policemen identified the suspect as Melbert De Luna, 39, of Purok Rosal at Airport Subdivision in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod.

He was arrested for qualified theft.

Judge Manuel Cardinal, Jr., of the Regional Trial Court, Branch-41 in Bacolod, issued the arrest warrant dated February 14, 2017.

A woman and her relative were arrested in a drug bust by elements of Himamaylan City PNP around 5:30 p.m. Monday at Rizal Street in Barangay 2 of the city.

Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez, Jr., Himamaylan PNP chief identified their target as Jasmine Castillo Gimotea, 47, single and resident of the place.

Gimotea was arrested after she handed one big sachet of suspected shabu to poseur-buyer in exchange of P1, 000 marked money.

Franchise and business strategist Armando Bartolome urged local businessmen and women in the city to have the right business mindset during a seminar in business and franchising here sponsored by the local DTI.

He said business mindset is the key to where the enterprise will go, before a crowd of more than 50 people.

He said the first five years of starting the business is usually the most difficult and critical. He said even a former business manager like him, had thoughts of going back to employment when he shifted to opening a company of his own.
