Last April 21, Coca-Cola toured the Bacolod media in its bottling facility in Mansilingan, Bacolod. Plant manager Bernard Engada disclosed that the facility has been using 100 percent locally-produced sugar since it began operations in 1998.

Engada further said that the company has already started its P850 million expansion which will double the sugar requirement of the Mansilingan facility. However, he was mum on the actual sugar consumption of the plant, citing that he was not authorized to reveal the figure.

The City of Victorias was hailed champion in the Rural Category with their performance “Regatones” and the Municipality of Binalbagan topped the Maria Clara Category with their winning piece “Bayluhan” during the 24th Panaad sa Negros Philippine Folkdance Competition.

A Negros-based environment group slammed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Negros Island Region (NIR) for what it called a case of “selective justice.”

Randy James Rojo, coordinator of Green Alert-Negros (GAN), in a statement said, the DENR-NIR filing of charges for violation of the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992 against Rolando Oyco, a poor charcoal maker at Don Salvador Benedicto, but not a single case against those with illegal structures inside the Northern Negros National Park, is “a sham”.

The intensity of the fight against Coca-Cola’s use of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) surged several notches higher, as even the most basic government unit in the country joins the boycott on Coke products.

In a resolution passed on its April 19 meeting, the Sangguniang Barangay of Barangay Talotog, Murcia banned and prohibited the sale of all products made by Coca-Cola in the barangay.

An alleged “fake” physician who issues doctor’s prescriptions was arrested Tuesday night outside a bakeshop in Bacolod City after issuing a prescription to her alleged patient.

Nabbed by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-Bacolod) was Michaela Ayubo Temporosa, of legal age.

The patient, Renalyn Ordaniel reportedly complained to NBI-Bacolod headed by Atty. Renoir Baldovino, and an entrapment against the suspect was set up.

Negros Occ. Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., yesterday confirmed that the Provincial Legal Office is currently investigating a quarry operator who used fake quarry coupons issued by the provincial government.

“He was caught with many fake coupons in his possession. After the investigation we will file charges against him in Court,” Marañon said.

Lawyer Wilmon Peñalosa, provincial environment management officer said that the issuance of coupons is the jurisdiction of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office.

A resident of Barangay Tuyom, Cauayan town in Negros Occidental was shot dead at Sitio Pacol, Barangay Caliling also of the town around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief Inspector Ruben Pajarito, Cauayan PNP chief identified the victim as Pablito Ravena, 32, resident of Purok 2, Barangay Tuyom in the town.

He sustained gunshot wounds from .45 caliber firearm.

The suspect was not identified and immediately escaped, according to Pajarito.

They are now conducting investigation on the case to determine the motive.*(CMGarde)

The Panaad Festival is “non-political”, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. reiterated yesterday.

“We cannot force everyone. They are free to join or not. It’s their choice,” Marañon said.

The Governor was reacting to the non-participation of Moises Padilla town in this year’s edition of the Panaad Festival.

Mayor Magdaleno Peña, a staunch critic of Marañon, has not given the provincial government an official communication on why they are not participating this year.

Two persons were killed and four others were injured when a tricycle collided with a Ceres bus at Barangay Tabao Rizal, San Enrique town in Negros Occidental about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Nels Elita, 60 and Valerie Rose Labrador, 31, all of Barangay Mailum, Bago City. Labrador died around 8:15 p.m. while being treated at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Kate Julianne Martinez of Bago City made a record-breaking throw to erase the 10-year old record of fellow Negrense in elementary discus throw on Wednesday in the ongoing 2017 Palarong Pambansa at the Binirayan Sports Complex, Antique.

A student of B. Araneta Elementary School, Martinez registered 35.56m to set a new record replacing Maika de Oro’s 33.07m and Negros Island Region’s 10th gold medal in the competition.

Sports Journ duckpinners secured the Twice-to-Beat advantage in the 2017 KMH Inter-Squad Trios Duckpin Bowling League Season 3 elimination round at Negros Super Lanes on Wednesday.

The Hernan Garciniego-led Sports Journ squad finished Number 1 and is set to face the winner between seeded number 2 Kami Mga Hubin anchored by Peter Deocadiz and seeded number 3 PC Bowlers with Arlou Dionio at the helm in the Stepladder Final Round tonight at 6:30PM.

Other members of the No.1 squad are Nilo Maghari, Henry Toga, Rommel Galvan, and Henceboy Cestina.
