Chief Supt. Renato Gumban, regional police director of Negros Island Region has found an ally in his former superior ,retired Gen. Romeo Maganto who defended him against allegations that he is protecting illegal gambling operations in the region.

Maganto, national commander of anti-crime and corruption Task Force Crusaders (TFC) on Saturday said he personally knows Gumban because “he used to be one of my men.”

“I do not believe that he is into illegal activities or a protector,” he said.

Former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella dared councilor Ricardo Tan to “show his balls” amid reports that the latter is eyeing to run for congressman in the city come 2019 elections.

Puentevella said that Tan should “show he is made of sterner stuff” in the city council.

He compared Tan to his son, Councilor Kalaw Puentevella whom he claimed “has the balls” as far as the city council is concerned.

Puentevella said, unlike his son whom he claimed is a vocal opposition in the city council, Tan has been “silent.”

A farmer was killed when hit by a fist of his neighbour in Barangay Anibong, Ayungon town in Negros Oriental on Friday evening.

Police reports disclosed that the victim, Judy Balbon, a farmer, 51 years old and resident of the place was on his way home when waylaid and hit with a fist by the suspect identified as Ariel Agoncillo, 23 years old, married and also resident of Anibong.

The victim was hit in the back of his head and slumped into the cemented rod causing him to sustain head and body injuries.

Eight persons, two of them women, were arrested in two separate buy bust operations, in Barangays 8 and Handumanan in Bacolod City Saturday

Bacolod Police Station 2 arrested seven suspects in Purok Narra Baybay in Barangay 8 in a buy bust operation.

Their target was Janice Garcia, a resident of the place.

Six other suspects were also caught on a pot session inside the shanty owned by Garcia. They are Crisante Despi of Banago; Jimmy Cantero, Gidor Peruelo of Murcia; Edgardo Fuentespina of Alijis, Jay Reynold Alit and Erly Lim of Pulupandan town.

Two persons allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in Barangay Codcod in San Carlos City at about 1 o’clock in the morning Saturday.

The unnamed victim was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for hematoma on her face, shoulder and head injury. She was allegedly hammered by one of the suspects.

The father, whom police also refused to identify, said they found their daughter naked inside a room in their house and the suspects had already left.

A female city employee of Kabankalan City government was arrested after she pointed and fired her firearm to her neighbor in Purok Taytay in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan around 5:30 in the afternoon Friday.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan PNP chief, identified the suspect as Myrna Recaplasa Belando, 35, single and resident of the place.

She was arrested by SSgt Marvin Pingcas, a member of the 2nd Platoon of the Delta Company of the Philippine Army under the 12th IB located at Brgy. Camingawan, Kabankalan.

JSY Transport squeaked past the undefeated Huminova Tigers, 73-72; while Silver Dragon Transport defeated AACI Transport, 94-84.

The event, spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and the Provincial Veterinary Office, is one of the main events of the nine-day Panaad sa Negros Festival 2017.

The house of a suspected gun dealer and drug pusher was raided by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Bacolod in Barangay Malubo in Vallehermoso town in Negros Oriental Saturday morning.

CIDG-Bacolod operatives led by Chief Inspector Reykho Alico, in coordination with the Vallehermoso PNP and Regional Public Safety Battalion-18, failed to arrest the suspect identified as Dennis Lopez, of legal age, married and resident of the place.

After five days of hiding, the driver of a Toyota Vios that hit a man backriding on a motorcycle along Buri Road in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod last April 23 , surrendered to Police Station 3 Thursday.

The driver was identified by PO3 Eliseo Andraneda, traffic investigator of Police Station 3 as Joshua Co of Camella Subdivision in Mandalagan.

Co was the driver of the car that hit Hernan Andol Mondia, 22, married of Purok Tongoy in Mandalagan.

The car is owned by his uncle.
