Almost a thousand new HIV antibody sero-positive individuals reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP) in March 2017, registering the highest number of cases reported since 1984.

The Department of Health (DOH), at the same time revealed that cases in Western Visayas (Panay and Negros Occidental) keep rising fast.

Bacolod Catholic school St. John’s Institute (SJI) is ‘now on its own’, according to its chairman.

Cesar Villanueva, SJI chair yesterday said that after meetings with the Diocese of Bacolod led by Bishop Patricio Buzon, ‘it was decided to disagree amicably.’

The church, located inside the SJI compound, “will now become a private chapel owned by the school,” he said.

Villanueva said there will be “no more Sunday masses but we were told to request from the Villamonte parish for priests to officiate services.”

Sr. Supt. Jack Wanky

The head of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) wants to establish a cybercrime unit in the city.

The request of Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, BCPO acting chief comes on the heels of the recent arrest of two suspects allegedly engaged in cybersex in Barangay Handumanan last week.

A Central Visayas-based cybercrime police unit led the entrapment of people.

“I will ask the higher police command to establish a cybercrime unit office here,” Wanky said.

He admitted that the case was a “wakeup call” for the BCPO, which lacks capability in terms of anti-cybercrime operations.

Two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle held up a supervisor and a salesman collecting cash in a store along Santiago Reyes Street in Barangay 2, Poblacion in EB Magalona town Monday afternoon.

Policemen identified the victims as Bes Diego De La Noche, 34, supervisor of CGM (Candido Guanzon Martir), and Emmanuel Yu Duyungan, 39, junior salesman of CGM.

They are both residents of Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City.

Hacienda Gaston ended its match against Hda Dapdap, 15-0, via mercy rule in the ongoing Negros First Governor Alfredo Marañon Inter-Hacienda Softball League 2017 at the Hda Lourdes Ballpark in Manapla on Sunday.

Despite the scorching heat of the sun, the Gaston ball players took control of the game during their demolition win at the end of third inning.

In the other match, Hda Dos Hermanos scored 13-5 to give Hda Guinolayan its second loss in the tournament. It was recalled that they also lost to Hda Cuaycong in the opener with a 15-8 blast.

Two persons were nabbed in separate places Monday for attempted murder in three counts and one that violates probation law.

In Silay City, Superintendent Willy Diel, OIC Silay City PNP chief and his men arrested Rodel Labadia Garcia, 27, “Alias Dondon” of Hacienda Macamig 2, Barangay E. Lopez in the City.

The suspect was arrested in Barangay 1 in Silay City around 10:00 a.m. Monday.

Police operatives are armed with arrest warrant issued by Judge Ana Celeste Bernad of the Regional Trial Court, Branch-69 in Silay City dated February 14, 2017.

A man riding on a motorcycle was arrested and yielded unlicensed firearms at Purok Tayum-an, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia town, Negros Occ. Monday morning.

Senior Inspector Ronaldo Santillan, OIC Murcia PNP chief identified the suspect as Harly Nobles Calida, 34, married, resident of Purok Bougainvillea, Barangay Pandanon, also of the town.

An older brother stabbed his younger brother in Sitio Torre, Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City around 6:00 p.m. Monday.

Police Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City OIC police chief identified the victim as Andrew Taguni Sayo, 24. He sustained stab wounds in the stomach and was rushed to Gomersendo Garcia Memorial Hospital in Kabankalan City.

Police identified the suspect as his older brother, Rolando, 26. The brothers are all residents of Sitio Tiki, Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City.

The best beach volleyball players in men and women divisions from Negros Island Region and Western Visayas showed their wares in the 1st Mayor Alonso Beach Volleyball Tournament in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental on Monday.

Tournament manager Janus Dumaran said that the champion received P10,000. The 1st runner-up P7,000; P5,000 for the 2nd Runner-up and P3,000 for 3rd Runner-up.

Participating teams will receive P1,200 each as consolation prizes.
