Two geographic battalions were created by the 3rd Infantry Division for the Negros Island Region (NIR). MajGen. Jon Aying, Commander, 3ID presided over the activation ceremonies held May 16 in Bacolod City, and May 17 in Dumaguete City.

The 1st Negros Island Geographic Battalion that covers the province of Negros Occidental is under LtCol Antonio Tumnog; while the 2nd Negros Island Geographic Battalion that covers Negros Oriental is under Ma. Udjie Villan.

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., welcomed the appointment of Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) Director Police Chief Supt. Edmund Gonzales.

Marañon revealed he was not able to attend the Gonzales’ turnover ceremonies due to his other work engagements.

The Governor said that in his short conversation with Gonzales, he ordered him to focus in the campaign against illegal drugs in the Negros Island Region (NIR).

Two persons were killed and another was injured during a fiesta celebration in Sitio Bonbon, Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan town, Negros Occ. past 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police Chief Inspector Ruben Pajarito, Cauayan PNP chief identified the victims as Uldarico Rivera Alipan, 45, married, farmer; and Winnie Villanueva, 44, all residents of the place.

Injured was Winnie’s son George Villanueva, 25, who sustained gunshot wounds on his stomach and back. He was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

The supposed kidnapping inside a pension house in La Carlota City was foiled when the supposed victim awakened at around 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

The incident happened inside VJB Pension House located at Uriarte Subdivision, Barangay 3, La Carlota City. The supposed victim was identified as Clarence Gilroy Culajara y Yngson, 27, single, jobless, of Goldcrest Subdivision, Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, who was sleeping with a minor when he was awakened by the noise of an unidentified male suspect who entered their room.
