Former WBO minimumweight champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo (26,13KOs-4-1) claimed the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) light flyweight title via TKO against Indonesian Jack “Destroyer” Amisa during the Monju-United-Naris International Boxing Promotion’s “Grudge Rematch-The Return Bout” at the Gaisano Grand Bacolod Mall on Saturday.

Every time I visit my good friend Music Icon Freddie Aguilar, popularly known as Ka Freddie at our Music Bar at Tomas Morato, Quezon City, I always hear him sing a meaningful and well composed song: "MINDANAO".

"Mula ng nagkaisip ay nagisnan ko ang problema

Hanggang sa kasalukuyan

Akin pang nakikita ang digmaan sa Mindanao…

Mindanao… Mindanao…"

Asking him about his inspiration in writing this song, he kept telling me, that this Mindanao Problem has been there for a long time, and is ongoing till now, waiting for Real Peace and Development.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City has approved in the midweek session, the request of Mayor Evelio Leonardia to make the 4th Sunday of the month of October as the highlight day of the yearly Masskara celebration.

Hence, Leonardia said, Masskara festival enthusiasts will have concrete idea and can include in their itinerary during the season.

Local legislators in both Negros Occidental and its capital Bacolod City passed resolutions last week expressing opposition to the proposed excise tax on beverages, sweetened by using locally-produced sugar.

On Wednesday, the SP of Negros Occidental unanimously approved a resolution urging lawmakers to reduce the proposed excise tax on sugar sweetened beverages from P10 to P5 per liter, in support of the stand of the Visayan-bloc House representatives.

The recent decision of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) dismissing for lack of merit the defenses raised by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya “proves the validity of my petition for a recount,” former Bacolod City vice mayor and congressional candidate Jude Thaddeus Sayson said.

“I am very happy with the decision. It shows that even the HRET saw the very big discrepancy on the total votes cast and the total votes tallied,” Sayson in a text message to the Negros Daily Bulletin said.

With the rapid development of its bulk water supply project, Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) General Manager Engr. Mario Macatangay is assuring City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Bacolodnons that a round-the-clock supply of water will be attained by October, this year.

Based on the report of Ryan Yapkianwee, contractor for the bulk water supply project, Injection Point Numbers 1 and 2 will deliver water to BACIWA by October..

Two drug personalities in Himamaylan City and in Valladolid town were arrested Friday in separate drug busts.

In Himamaylan, Police Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez, Jr., Himamaylan PNP chief identified the suspect as Client Alcazar Javelosa, 26, married, “Alias Mockie” of Purok 9 in Barangay Aguisan, in the city, where he was nabbed Friday night.

Police operatives confiscated from him small heat-sealed suspected shabu worth P500, marked money of P500 and other drug paraphernalia.

A member of the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU-18) was charged with the murder of the Serenios.

Senior Police Officer 2 Joshua Barile was accused of allegedly killing Wilmar Serenio last April, the younger brother of Ricky Serenio, and their father Wilfredo Serenio last May 15.

Barile was allegedly the one who shot dead the two Serenios.

A woman died at a hospital after she was hit by lightning outside her house in Barangay Buhangin in Isabela town, Friday afternoon.

Chief Inspector Edfel Balibadlan, Isabela PNP chief identified the victim as Jonah Chavez, 34, married and resident of the place.

She was standing outside their house in the hinterland barangay of Buhangin in Isabela town when hit by lightning. She sustained burns all over her body.

Her neighbours and relatives rushed her to the Ignacito Lacson Arroyo, Sr. Hospital, but was declared dead-on-arrival.

A faction of the New People’s Army (NPA) is reportedly aligning itself with the terrorist Maute group currently engaging government forces in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Capt. Eduardo Precioso, Jr., Public Information Officer of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, said they have confirmed the presence of the rebel faction under the Romeo Caro Platoon Bagong Hukbong Bayan in the area between Bayawan City and Sta. Catalina town in Negros Oriental.

The central office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has ordered its local office to investigate an alleged illegal road construction in a CARPed area in Purok 9, Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia.

In a May 10, 2017 order signed by Engr. Leandro Caymo, director of DAR’s Bureau of Land Tenure Improvement, obtained by media Saturday, it endorsed the letter of Task Force Crusaders national deputy commander John Chiong requesting to investigate the complaint it received from Valentin Jamelo.
