Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia expressed quandary regarding reports that the Private-Public Partnership (PPP) scheme on infrastructures projects has been scrapped.

“If this is true,” Mayor Leonardia said, “I do not know the intricacy because there is ongoing project for expansion of the Bacolod-Silay airport.”

Reportedly, Bacolod City is part of the five major and prime airports in the country, with P20 billion fund under PPP scheme. These airports are Davao, Iloilo, Cebu, Tagbilaran and Bacolod.

About 70 employees of the Social Security System (SSS) in Negros Island Region conducted a mangrove planting activity in the coastal water of Brgy. Pahanocoy in Bacolod City last May 13 in connection with the pension fund’s 60th anniversary celebration on September 1.

This capital of Negros Occidental is reeling from water shortage and needs about 60 million liters per day to satisfy the maximum daily demand, Engr. Mario Macatangay, general manager of the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) admitted.

Macatangay said Baciwa can only supply 43 million liters per day.

He said that the water firm will drill six additional wells while waiting for its bulk water supply project to address the shortage.

Baciwa conducted a bidding last week for the six additional wells to augment supply from its 60 existing wells.

Cadiz City Police arrested a drug pusher in Barangay Tinampaan, Cadiz City; and three others in Bago City and one in Calatrava town Sunday.

Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, Cadiz City PNP identified the suspect as Jelon Bacus Alegiojo, 21, single, of Purok Narra 3, Barangay Tinampaan, Cadiz City.

The arresting team was led by Police Inspector Alfred Garcia, Deputy Police Chief around 6:27 p.m. Sunday, who confiscated three heat sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu worth about P1, 500, one Cherry Mobile cellphone, other drug paraphernalia and the P500 marked money.

A man who went fishing in a river slipped on a 30-feet cliff and fell, in Barangay Mamburao, Pamplona town, Negros Oriental.

The victim, identified as Cristito Lara Ponce, 55, single, of the said place reportedly went fishing around 8:00 a.m. Saturday and was discovered around 6:00 a.m. the following day, Sunday.

A certain Rene Palalon of the barangay who was pasturing his carabao saw the victim in the cliff.

The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital but passed away around 7:00 a.m. Sunday

It was reported that the victim had an episode of epilepsy.*

The Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod City will conduct a committee hearing with regard to the proposed creation of a new legislative district in the City of Bacolod this June 1, 2017.

Councilor Caesar Distrito, Chairperson of the Committee said that Congressman Greg G. Gasataya requested the opinion of the Mayor and the members of Sanggunian on the proposed redistricting of Bacolod City.

Another man committed suicide in Barangay Balingasag, Bago City, Negros Occ. around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Chief Inspector Joeffrey Cabural, OIC police chief of Bago City PNP identified the victim as Joshua Pederizo Guzman, 20, of Purok Rosas, Barangay Balingasag, Bago City.

He was found by his live-in partner Kent Catherine Canja Buelo, 21, hanging at their balcony using a blanket.

The display of Philippine flag runs May 28 to June 12 as flag days.

Concerned Negrenses have launched a donation drive to send help to the people caught in the ongoing conflict government forces and the terrorist Maute group in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

In a Facebook post, the group calling itself “Bacolod stand by Marawi”, the organizers aims to gather 100 boxes of donations gather 10 volunteers per day starting yesterday until June 2.

“We are not a formal group actually. Just concerned citizens looking for a common venue for donations,” Kimee Santiago, leader of the group said.
