Barangay Villamonte successfully pulled a last minute run to snatch the spotlight from Singcang Destroyers, 90-89 and capture the 1st Congressman Greg Gasataya Basketball League title before the jam-packed crowd at the STI-West Negros University gym late Thursday.

The Talisay Team in the 3rd Albee Cup Inter-LGU Sportsfest scored multiple wins over the other LGU groups in the second week of the basketball and volleyball games.

In the basketball matches for 39 below category, Talisay won over Victorias last June 3; and beat Silay in the June 4 schedule. Talisay also beat Murcia (June 3) and EB Magalona (June 4) in the 40 above basketball games.

Talisay’s 5th win is in the volleyball-men’s category last June 4, playing against EB Magalona.

The motion for reconsideration of Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya on a pending recount for the city’s lone congressional is just delaying the search for truth, former vice mayor and congressional candidate Jude Thaddeus Sayson yesterday said.

Sayson said that if Gasataya is confident that he “truly won” the 2016 race for Bacolod congressman “he should not delay it anymore and instead help him ask the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal to hasten the recount process so that once and for all, we will know who really won.”

Although members of the United Negros Drivers Operators Center (UNDOC) have pushed through with the transport strike yesterday, June 5, but it was not felt by the commuters because majority of the jeepney drivers did not join the strike. More so, classes have also continued as scheduled start of classes for school year 2017-2018.

The 6-month rigid training for new recruits in the Army has started June 1, 2017 at the headquarters of 3rd Infantry Division, Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz. The candidate soldier course Classes 447, 448 and 449 are cross trained on Jungle Warfare and Mountain Operations Course (JWMOC) composed of 278 selected civilians coming from the provinces in Western and Central Visayas.

One of the three sisters who went swimming was drowned in Sitio Bliss, Barangay Poblacion, Bindoy, Negros Oriental around 2:20 p.m. Sunday.

Declared dead on arrival at Bindoy District Hospital was identified as Regene Mae Amantillo Lendio, 20, single, of Barangay Camudlas, Bindoy, Negros Oriental.

Her sisters, Clestel, 23 and Apple, 14 survived after they were rescued and rushed to the same hospital.

Five persons were arrested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Negros Island Region (PDEA-NIR) in coordination with San Carlos City PNP in a drug bust in Burgos, Parola in Barangay 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occ. at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.

The arrest of suspects led to the confiscation of 5.5 grams with estimated market value of P55, 000.

Two persons were shot dead in Bacolod and Dumaguete cities at dawn yesterday, Monday and Saturday evening.

Around 1:50 a.m. yesterday, Monday Joshua Aligayda, 16, of Barangay 26 was shot dead in Gonzaga Street, Barangay 26, Bacolod City by an unidentified suspect in a car that passed by.

He sustained gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body and was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but declared dead on arrival.

Aligayda has just emerged from the house of his friend who was celebrating his birthday.

A neighbor was hacked dead by his neighbor in Sitio Guluwaan, Barangay Bulado, Guihulngan City around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Superintendent Arnel Arpon, OIC police chief of Guihulngan City identified the victim as Sopronio Gosarim Acabo, 59, married, resident of the place. He sustained hack wounds in the different parts of the body and declared dead on arrival at Guihulngan District Hospital.

Arpon identified the suspect as Gregorio Ferolino Alpuerto, 49, married, of Sitio Guluwaan, Barangay Bulado, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO)–Negros Occidental will spearhead a recruitment activity tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Silay City Civic Center.

A number of POEA-licensed recruitment agencies will be hiring nurses, skilled workers, drivers, engineers, heavy equipment operators, service crew, among others, to work at United Kingdom, Middle East, and Japan.

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. called on Negrenses to help in the Capitol- initiated relief effort for the affected civilians in Marawi City.

Marañon said the provincial government is now accepting donations from various individuals and groups.

The priority items are “Halal” food items, drinking water, sanitation kits, blankets, batteries, first aid kits, sleeping mats, and portable lamps or flashlights, the Governor said.

The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) has called the planned two-day transport strike at 1:00 pm yesterday after getting assurance from Bacolod Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya that he will raise their concerns in Congress.

Diego Malacad, UNDOC secretary general met with Gasataya at the latter’s office and submitted their position paper and concerns over the implementation of Traffic Crises Act of 2016 that aims to phase out vehicles aging 15 years and above.

The district minister of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in Negros Occidental filed a libel case against a columnist and radio commentator and 22 others, documents obtained by the Negros Daily Bulletin (NDB) revealed.
