Victorias City officials and employees showcased their various ASEAN-inspired attires around the streets of the City as part of the group contest yesterday (August 7) to commemorate the National ASEAN Week this Aug 7-13.

The 10 groups, representing the different ASEAN-member states also performed song and dance presentations at the Victorias City Public Plaza.

The Department of Agrarian Reform-Negros Island Region (DAR-NIR) recently awarded 10 outstanding Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) during its recent 2017 summit at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel.

Best Performing ARBOs under the Agrarian Production Credit Program (APCP) goes to Sycip Plantation Farmworkers Agrarian Cooperative and in the Village Level Processing Center Enhanced Project (VLPCEP) category is Ramrod Agricultural Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Rampuco).

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) have joined forces to provide skills technical education and training for the poor.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong and FFCCCII President Domingo Yap led the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) in Binondo, Manila last August 1.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) did a commendable job of seizing the biggest drug apprehension in La Carlota City to date in their campaign against illegal drugs. The operation was done based on the authority of a Search Warrant issued by Judge Cyclamen Fernandez of the RTC Branch 53.

A motorcycle driver was killed in a road mishap involving a Toyota Hilux around 3:50 p.m. Saturday along the national highway in Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP chief identified the victim as Rodolfo Alforo Llena Jr., 34, married, of G. Cordova Street, Barangay 3, Kabankalan City.

A 67-year-old jobless man suffering from illness committed suicide around 3:00 p.m. Sunday in his residence in Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Lag-asan, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the victim as Eduardo Villaruz, 67, single.

A witness, Reynaldo Villas Villaruz, 49, married, said he heard a gunshot and checked inside their house and saw the victim lying on his bed, holding a .38 caliber firearm with blood oozing from his head.

“We have to reinstate Atty. Juliana B. Carbon as general manager of the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA), as mandated by the court. We have no choice otherwise. We will be liable for contempt of court having ordered the reinstatement of Carbon as general manager of the water district.”

This was reportedly the statement of Atty. Lorendo Dilag, Chairman, BACIWA, during the presscon yesterday, August 7.

A member of Barangay Lupon Tagapamayapa from Mina-otoc, a hinterland barangay of Calatrava town was shot dead around 9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, at their residence in Sitio Putingtubig, Barangay Mina-otoc, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Police chief inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, Calatrava PNP chief identified the victim as Efraim “Boy” Gubat, 70, married, who also worked as a surveyor.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot.

According to witnesses, about 10 armed men shot the victim, while six of them served as lookout.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson yesterday hinted on the more likely political scenario in the province in 2019.

Lacson, acknowledged as the “strongest successor” for governor in 2019, said Friday’s meeting between him and 3rd District Congressman Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez, along with other Love Negros (LN) officials, was a positive one.
