As expected, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Negros Occidental is dismayed with the P1,000 budget for 2018 as approved by the House of Representatives Tuesday.

“We at CHR fear what will happen to us in 2018. Our concern is on our services, security of tenure and the mandate of the agency to protect human rights,” Romeo Baldevarona, CHR provincial head said yesterday.

Baldevarona said, their agency “is constitutionally-mandated under the 1987 Constitution.”

“We believe politics has intervened in the CHR especially in the release of funds,” he said.

A septuagenarian was found dead in a fishpond located at Ruso Resort, Barangay Tomongtong in EB Magalona town around 7:30 a.m. yesterday, Wednesday.

EB Magalona PNP identified the body as that of Jesus Sisbriño Sabedoria, 78, married, labourer, of Barangay Tomongtong, EB Magalona.

Joel Escaner and Winnefer Bonganseso, fishpond employees of Eduardo Lopingco reported to EB Magalona PNP that they found the victim’s body floating in one of the fishponds in the area.

A person wanted for rape was arrested in Barangay Buluangan in San Carlos City, Negros occidental around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

San Carlos City police identified the suspect as Ruel Celis “Alyas Pitla”, of Sitio Lamesa, Barangay Buluangan, San Carlos City.

Joint elements of San Carlos City Police led by Police Inspector Lamberto Mirande and Warrant PNCO together with Mobile Team Member and 2nd Maneuver Platoon, 1st Company, RPSB18 led by Police Senior Inspector Ryan Villasario under supervision of Police Chief Inspector Jayson Manguilimutan arrested the suspect.

If the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) cannot sustain high visibility against robbery and holdup, will it succeed in shifting to covert patrolling to cacth the culprits?

After assuring Bacolod residents, for several times, that police visibility in the city was being improved against crimes, the city police chief this time is blaming the “over-stretching” of his personnel for visibility.

“Personnel of the BCPO is overstretched,” claimed Senior Supt. Jack Wanky, acting city police director.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to clarify to the grantees in Bacolod City the recent clamor of some Barangay 3 residents about the supposed cash assistance that is due them. The subsidy is in the form of cash that is in compliance with the 2017 GAA Provision. The subsidy is being released together with cash grants during scheduled payouts to all Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program to its beneficiaries.

The two sons of a former policeman neutralized their father after they caught him using shabu at their house in Purok Mahidaiton, Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City around 5:40 p.m. Monday and turned him over to police.

Police Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Sagay City PNP OIC police chief identified the suspect as Benny Alarcon Adraneda, Sr., 56.

Adraneda was a former police assigned in Sagay City PNP, Cadiz City PNP, Bacolod City Police Office and EB Magalona PNP.

The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist will be launching the “Farmers Market sa Kapitolyo” on Sept. 15, 2017 at the Provincial Capitol Driveway, North Capitol Road. The holding of the farmers market will be held every 2nd and last Friday of the month thereafter.

This endeavor aims to showcase, promote and sell out farmers’ products and link them to direct buyers and consumers through market matching and personal contact.

A native of Mindanao committed suicide in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities identified the victim as Ronie Latayada Oblimar, 50, married, native of Initao, Misamis Oriental in Mindanao and temporarily residing in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim was in the house of his sister, Judith Oblimar Laroa when he stabbed himself with a 13-inch kitchen knife.

Organic Solutions take the lead, 17-10, in the opening quarter through Lito Dumdum with 10 points

But Chibon Uy scored for 17 points in the 2nd quarter and teammates Michael Ang and Biboy Uysang combined for 11 points to take the lead at the break, 38-26.
