A hundred tankers from across the province are expected to converge at the Laura Beach Resort in Cadiz City on January 27 for the staging of the 4th Mayor’s Cup Age Group Swimfest 2018.

Hosted by the Cadiz Whales Swimming Club, the event is part of the City’s Annual Dinagsa Festival celebration.

Among the age-group categories to be competed are the 7-8 years old, 9-10 years old, 11-12 years old, 13-14 years old, and 15 years old and over.

Some 22,064 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Negros Occidental have been assisted by the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Negosyo Centers in 2017.

According to DTI Senior Trade and Development specialist Dr. Romel Amihan, Negosyo Centers which are situated in various local government units (LGUs) replicate DTI’s programs and services.

“If you are an entrepreneur who wish to seek advice on business improvement, there are business counselors in Negosyo Centers who are willing to help you,” Amihan emphasized.

The Bago City Government recently awarded the winners of the Lights of Bago Photo Contest which is in line with the 10th Lights of Bago Synchronized Fireworks Show, aptly themed, “Peace, Love and Unity”.

For the conventional category, Toni Rose Burgos garnered first place, Quino Yao ranked second and Erwin Lim was declared as third placer.

Runners-up include John Kimwell Laluma, Famelyn Villiarias, Voltaire Siacor, Jimbo Araneta and Romil Bernaje.

The said category includes photos taken using digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras.

A drug suspect was surprised by police operatives in a buy bust operation around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Tugas, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.

Superintendent Frankie Lugo, OIC police chief of Tanjay identified the suspect as Jumarie Capino Ramirez, 18, of Barangay San Jose, Tanjay.

The operatives was led by SPO1 Dickmar Gornez in coordination of PDEA-Negros Oriental.

Confiscated from him were two plastic sachets of suspected shabu, including the buy bust item in exchange for P500 marked money.

A man driving his motorcycle was killed when he hit a parked cargo truck in Barangay Road in the vicinity of Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Bato, Sagay City at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Sagay OIC police chief identified the victim as Ariel Macatunao Villarin, 25, married, of Purok Marang, Barangay Bato, Sagay.

The victim sustained fatal head and body injuries and was declared dead on arrival at nearby Alfredo Marañon Sr. District Hospital.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Negros Occidental headed by Provincial Fire Marshal, Supt. Rodolfo Denaga together with the fire chiefs of the cities and municipalities of the province, paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. at the Capitol, Thursday, as part of their annual new year’s call.

Barangay Tanods in the City will soon receive a Two Thousand Pesos (P 2000) incentive from the City Government, once approved by the City Mayor, Evelio R. Leonardia.

This is after the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod recently approved on its final reading the ordinance providing allowance of P2, 000 to barangay tanods who perform auxiliary duties in their respective police stations or with the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO).

Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor yesterday, January 18, 2018 revealed that he will initiate to update the municipal Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of the locality to suit the needed development that will benefit the people of the town.

Malabor said this is among his priorities for year 2018.

He stressed that through updating the CLUP and implementing the necessary infrastructure the people of the locality, will see something tangible under his administration.

Business owners along the northern end of the newly-inaugurated flyover in Araneta Avenue, Bacolod City have complained that traffic has worsened in that area since the flyover was opened to the public.

The Negros Press Club (NPC), the oldest press club in the Philippines, will hold its annual general assembly and election of new set of officers at around 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20.

The activity to be held at NPC Building in Bacolod City will be attended by about 150 member-media practitioners in Negros Occidental.

Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO) informs its consumers that the residential rate for January 2018 billing is P10.8746/kWh; an increase of P0.8428/kWh from last month’s P10.0318/kWh.

The upward adjustment in CENECO’s effective rate can be attributed to the increase in purchase cost and the charges in generation, transmission, and system loss in the amount of P0.6016, P0.0315, and P0.0855, respectively.

CENECO continues to remind its electricity consumers to conserve energy to avoid paying high electricity bills.*(The Management)
