Sugar workers get lots of benefits than others

Of all industries, only the sugar workers receive lots of benefits from the government.

Thus said Atty, Johnson G. Cañete, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6, who was in town over the weekend for the monthly regional coordinating council conference.

Canete said, aside from the benefits from the Social Security System (SSS), any sugar worker who is certified worker in a certain hacienda, in case of work related death, his/her family receives death/burial benefits from DOLE in the amount of P10,000.

Also the surviving spouse receives P30,000 from the Employees Compensation Committee (ECC) of DOLE. Hence, the survivors of the deceased also receive the amount of P30,000.

The Council is comprised by Blesilda Magsangcay, OIC, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Reion 6; Susana Quimpo, Director II, National Conciliation Management Board (NCMB) Region 6; Bernardo Sibay, Regional Reintegration Officer, DOLE; Stephen Barredo, Regional Officer, Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC); Atty. Ma. Ailyne Valaquio, OIC, Regional Tripartite Wages & Productivity Board VI; and Joseph Batealan, Labor Communication Officer, DOLE.

According to Barredo, ECC will increase the benefits for workers. A
