UNEGA Committed to Back Mar-Leni, But Free to Choose Senators
Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said that his United Negros Alliance (UnegA) is committed to support Mar Roxas and Rep. Leni Robredo, but they are free to support any senatorial candidates.
Marañon said personally he has not yet finalized his list on who to vote for senator in 2016.
“It will be a mix from the Liberal Party (LP) and from the other groups,” the Governor said, adding that his commitment is only for Roxas and Robredo.
He pointed out that he is not an LP member.
“There are senators who remember you only during elections,” Marañon said.
He said that for now, on his list for senators is Sen. Sergio Osmeña III, Senate President Franklin Drilon and former Senator Francis Panglinan.
As for Rafael Alunan, a Negrense, Marañon said the former should have launched his senatorial bid “much earlier,” while for Joel Villanueva, former director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), he said, “I’m still thinking about him if he can win.”
“I don’t want to waste my vote on those who has a slim chance of winning,” he added.
“My list has still nine slots open,” Marañon said.
Meanwhile, Marañon denied having a hand in the cancellation of the visit of Roxas to Victorias City last November 28.
“I have no idea about it nor have I opposed it,” he said.*
