MOA for Project FREE Batch 2 inked

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., University of St. La Salle President and Chancellor, Br. Joaquin Severino S. Martinez, FSC and Department of Education (DepEd) Officer-in-Charge Supt. Gladys Amylaine D. Sales, signed a Memorandum of Agreement which will offer scholarship grants to 1,122 teacher-scholars under the Project FREE - Paglaum Program (Batch 2) of the Province of Negros Occidental at the University of St. La Salle–Bacolod Coliseum, yesterday.

Fulfilling his promise to the second batch of Project FREE, Gov. Marañon has allocated more than P28 Million grant to fund the masteral and doctoral studies of 1,000 teachers while the University of St. La Salle will also give 122 pro-bono slots that will aim to improve the knowledge and skills of the teacher-scholars in providing quality education and outstanding scholastic performance to Negrense school children.

Dr. Annabelle Balor, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs of USLS, expressed her gratitude towards the Governor for keeping his word and for believing in one of the most promising and fundamentally functioning Public-Private sector Partnerships in the province.

Gov. Marañon said that this will not be the last batch for Project FREE - Paglaum, adding that as long as there are public school teachers who are willing to avail of the program, the government will not stop allocating funds for education.
