A farmer was shot and wounded by a laborer in a drinking spree at Purok 4, Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as Victor Flores Eleuterio, 55, married, of Purok 4, Magballo, Kabankalan. He sustained gunshot wound on his upper chest and left arm and was rushed to Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Police identified the suspect as Samuel Sanan Villasis, 51, married, of Barangay Pinggot Proper in Ilog town, Negros Occidental.
Initial investigation disclosed that the two has just attended a vigil and were having a drinking spree. Already drunk, a heated argument ensued. The suspect got angry and took his improvised shotgun locally known as “sulpak” and shot the victim.
The suspect surrendered to Village Chief Joemarie Eres of Barangay Canlamay, Ilog and was later endorsed to Kabankalan police.
He told police authorities that he threw the firearm on the road while fleeing.
Follow up investigation disclosed that the victim’s niece, Nica Eleuterio Villacanas, 20, of Magballo said that around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, she discovered that her bag was too heavy placed inside the victim’s parent. This prompted her to check and discovered one (1) bladed weapon with scabbard and one (1) Colt MK .45 caliber with serial number 2965711 with magazine loaded with eight (8) live bullets.
She believes it was owned by the victim as she always saw it with him.
The victim’s sister, Mary Ann Eleuterio Manzano, 42, married, turned it over to their Village Chief Antonio Egan who facilitated the turnover of the firearm to police authorities.*(CMG)
