Former Seminarians Elect New Board

Yesterday, I spent almost the wholeday in an exciting meeting with former students of the Sacred Heart diocesan seminarian Lupit.

The problem - only barely one half of the 90 or more who attended the last Golden Jubilee were present. But what they lacked in numbers, the former seminarians did not betray lack of zeal to the body more aggressive pursuing their goals of a dynamic organization.

Imagine my surprise when former DILG regional director Bong Dilag went into a spin when he moved that I be named by the general assembly as chairman emeritus, although he had orginally used the word "president."

But Dilag, who belongs to Class ’69, stressed that I was the only one of two remaining members of the Pioneer Class ’46, Msgr. Marcos H. Pilar died two weeks ago. The only other remaining members of the class are myself and Fr. Manuel Porquez of EB Magalona.

But that was not the point. Bong, himself, stressed that all those nominated pledge to devote their time to serve the Association of Lay Alumni of the Sacred Heart Seminary.

He, himself, agreed to serve that board of directors, but did not wait for the presidency. But, knowing that the body was going to ask for the commitment from him, Pong left early the meeting.

But he left word that he was willing to serve the board as an ordinary director and as legal counsel of the body.

The result-Andres Garong was unanimously elected as president by the 15-man board of directors.

Arnold Ilejay was elected vice president with Cornelio Carmona as secretary.

Dave Estanislao was reelected as treasurer. The board members were impressed by his faithful husbanding of the corporate funds.

The others were Alex Beleno, auditor, and Andre Tagamolila as PIO.

Tagamolila and Estanislao were credited by the board for having masterfully chosen the entry of the organization into the computer age.

The othr directors are, aside from Dilag, Jimmy Badilla, and Reybolido. The others included Jeffrey Mendoza, Galo, Rosales, Ernie Cabales, Donald Casiano, Mike Gonzales, and Roy Zuñiga.

I swore the new officers into office.

One thing I can say is that this new set of officers of the Lay Alumni Association are truly determined to make a success of their shepherding of the body.*
