Stabs Wife, 3 Others

An alleged mentally-disturbed father in Hinigaran, Negros Occ. was incarcerated after attacking his 6 month-old baby to death, wounding his wife and three other kins, yesterday afternoon.

PO3 Joemarie Sarresa, of Hinigaran Police Station told NDB that Gilbert Mana-ay, 24, a laborer, assaulted 6-month old Cencen Mana-ay who at the time was sleeping on a makeshift hammock in their house at Sitio Balabag, Brgy. Candumarao.

Police probers reported that Mana-ay is possibly suffering from a mental illness considering that he killed his own baby using a chisel without a cause.

After attacking the baby, Mana-ay turned his attention to his wife, Jane, who sustained multiple stab wounds on her body from a stainless knife. She is now confined at the Isabela (Negros Occ.) District Hospital.

Sarresa added that the suspect also stabbed his nephews, Frederick John and Francis Art Mana-ay, 6 and 5 years old, respectively, and his brotehrin-law, Glen Fernandez who tried to settle him down. The trio were brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City for treatment.

Meanwhile, Mana-ay is presently detained at Hinigaran Police Station.* (RRM)
