Cop Succumbs to Cancer
One of the province’s most committed police officers died yesterday at the hospital fighting for survivor against colon cancer.
Police Supt. Alex Belonio, deputy company commander of the Negros Occidental Provincial Public Safety Management Company, succumbed to cancer at the Riverside Hospital in Bacolod City at around 1 o’clock in the morning.
He was 53.
Belonio, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class of 1983, was a former group director of the 611th Provincial Mobile Group (PMG) based in Sagay City before his demise.
He was also the former police chief of Bago City, Victorias City and Pulupandan town.
Belonio is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
PSSupt. Manuel Felix, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) led the offering of a minute of silence for Belonio during yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon, reports said.* (RRM)
