No Conclusive Findings Yet on Port Tragedy
Police probers have not yet come up with conclusive findings on the freak accident involving a ‘couple’ whose vehicle fell into the sea in the BREDCO Port, both lovers having drowned Sunday night.
Their bodies were only recovered at dawn, Monday, police authorities said.
The mystery of how the vehicle - Mitsubishi Pajero moved towards the seaside after the occupants parked it that late evening Sunday, has not yet been resolved by the police.
In an interview with Aks-yon Radyo, Bacolod Police Chief Senior Supt. Celestino Guara Jr. surmised that the vehicle may have been placed on neutral shift with the ignition switched on as indicated by the fact that the aircon-ditioning unit was still running when retrieved from the sea.
It is possible that the gear may have been accidentally touched by the two, either by the 57-year old Ramon Vicete or by his lady companion inside the vehicle, a 22-year old nursing student.
After the accidental touch, the vehicle shifted to the drive mode and gradually moved towards the sea, Guara added.
Just a simple touch would result to a change in the car’s mode as it comes with an automatic transmission, said Guara. The possible witnesses, a hook-line and sinker fisherman and a security guard testified that for some time, the car lurched forward indicating that it was on a drive mode. There have also been speculations that the couple were quarreling as the car lurched forward though there was no conclusive findings on that, as well.
The autopsy report is still being finished by police investigators.* (Edgar Cadagat)
