Man finds Jesus

By Robert Harland

We’ve all read the stories - someone finds the image in Mother Teresa in a bun, or the image the of the Virgin Mary in a sandwich and even Jesus in the clouds.

Such ‘miracle finds’ are sometimes worshipped. Some are even sold for large amounts of money such as a half-eaten grilled cheese sandwich that supposedly bore the image of the Virgin Mary. That changed hands for a staggering $28,000 (Php1.3m) in 2004

The latest ‘miracle find’ is in England where father-of-one Chris Nash, claims that a piece of plastic he found in his back garden contains an image of Jesus and says it may also have special powers.

Nash, 27, also claims that since making his surprise discovery, his health and career prospects have take a turn for the better.

He now plans to sell the miraculous find on eBay and that will really see if it has special powers.

"It’s about the size of a thumb and when I picked it up, I though it looked just like Jesus Christ," he said form his home in Ipswich in eastern England.

"The image isn’t clear close up but if you move backwards it all comes together. I’ve shown it to friends and they all think it’s freaky."

Mr. Nash added that after finding the object, his life started to take a turn for the better.

"I had a severe cold since Christmas but since finding the image it’s completely cleared up," he said. "I was also on a probation period for a new job at work and this week my boss told me I had the job.

"These days I feel as if I have more energy than usual. All these things could be coincidence but it does seem strange.

Not everyone agrees such finds are miraculous. One observer says they are absurd because no one knows what Jesus or Mary really looked like - the image we all have of them are just Renaissance-era interpretations of how they might have looked.

"Natural and random processes can explain all those shapes. And revering those shapes as holy miracles is actually guilty of the same idolatry worship which Jesus criticized."

So there you have it. Perhaps Mr. Nash is just doing a bit of PR in the hope of making a quick buck for his ‘miracle find’. After all, if a piece of old sandwich can sell for $28,000, what might a more lasting piece of plastic be worth?
