Bacolod City Holds Waste Segregation Campaign Among Media Practitioners
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested the assistance of print and
broadcast media in disseminating the City Government’s campaign on effective
solid waste management, particularly solid waste segregation, during a meeting
with members of the media community held yesterday at the New Government Center.
Leonardia said the City Government aims to disseminate information to as many
people as possible in order to ensure the proper implementation of Republic Act
9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, that requires segregation of
solid wastes according to its classification i.e. compostable, recyclable,
residual and hazardous wastes.
He also emphasized that the City Government will implement the “no segregation,
no collection” policy beginning April 1 so it is important that each individual
starts segregating their wastes now.
The mayor also expressed his gratitude to the attendees saying that their
presence is very crucial to the success of the city government’s campaign on
effective solid waste management. Councilor Greg Gasataya, Sangguniang
Panlungsod Committee Chairman on Environment, on the other hand, expressed
confidence that the media will be a very effective tool in disseminating the
city’s solid waste management campaign.
Media outlets represented during the meeting were ABS-CBN Bacolod, Sky Cable,
Sunshine Channel, Visayan Daily Star, SunStar Bacolod, Agila, Negros Daily
Bulletin, Negros Weekly, RMN Bacolod, DYWB Bombo Radyo, DYRL Bacolod, DYEZ
Aksyon Radyo and DYAF Radyo Veritas.*
