City Vet impounds 848 dogs
The Bacolod City Veterinarian Office reported that 848 dogs were either surrendered or impounded in their office last year.
City Veterinarian Ma. Agueda Trinidad Fe La Torre said impounded dogs totaled 460, while those surrendered reached 388.
Dogs claimed totaled 41, adopted 128 and euthanized 679.
The month of August registered the highest figure for impounded dogs 131, surrendered 35, claimed 12, adopted 15, and euthanized 186. The month also posted the highest number for dogs that were either impounded or surrendered at 213.
“City pound operation is a year round activity being conducted by the CVO to control stray dogs,” De la Torre said.
The aim is to eventually eliminate stray dogs in Bacolod City and thereby eliminate rabies, she added.
According to De la Torre, veterinary extension services were provided to different clients giving free consultation while clients shouldered the biologics and other medicines because the city has no provisions for it.
“Monitoring and surveillance for occurrence of reportable diseases were also conducted.”*(JSC/Lljr-PIA6 NegrosOcc.)
