Cop shot wanted person resisting arrest
A person wanted for murder retaliated with the arresting police operatives when he was served with an arrest warrant for his crime around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in Sitio Amparo, Barangay Mabini, Escalante City.
Police Chief Inspector Rollie Pondevilla, Escalante PNP chief identified the suspect as Joy De La Cruz Victorama, married, resident of the place.
The suspect was served with the warrant issued by Kathrine A. Go, Executive Judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 57 in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.
While police operatives served the arrest warrant, he showed aggression by running towards PO1 Cris Escovilla, grabbed his service firearm
and grappled with it. PO3 Teofisto Aburido II helped his fellow officer, on the process falling on the ground and throwing the firearm away.
The suspect in turn got a sharp metal used for chopping sugarcane and stabbed Aburido on his left arm, prompting PO1 Cris Escovilla to shoot the suspect to defend his fellow police officer. The suspect was hit on his left side.
The suspect was immediately rushed to Dr. Vicente Gustilo District Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod heavily guarded.*(Cyrus M. Garde)
