W. HENRY O. STREEGAN

William Henry Obregon Streegan is a two-time president of the Negros Press Club and a veteran journalist who distinguishes himself as a hard-hitting, no-nonsense practitioner, experienced mediaman, both in column-writing and the management aspect of newspapering.

Even before he ventured into full-time media work as journalist, he used to be a corporate communications man, having served Hawaiian-Philippine Company, a prestigious sugar milling firm where he was active as community relations officer and media liaison man of the sugar mill incharge of publications and in PR work for more than 30 years until he retired and devoted himself to meaningful civic and religious activities in the community.

Among his early stints with the community press was editing the now defunct Visayan Times, undoubtedly one of the first local daily papers if not the first in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental. He also anchored a number of notable broadcast commentaries, both on radio and television, the latest of which is billed "Pointblank," which is the same title of his column in the NDB where he is considered a regular staffer, acting as editorial consultant, spending time and resources to keep the daily paper afloat, generating business and helping boost the publication’s viability, credibility and respectability in serving its clientele and readership.

He has authored 26 technical papers, presented at the annual PHILSUTECH Conventions in the sugar industry. He has written the biographies of prominent Filipinos like that of the late Senator Carlitos Fortich of Bukidnon, Senator Arturo Tolentino, Dr. Rafael Lazatin of Pampanga, the biography of his brother, the late Jose O. Streegan of Cadiz City, and several other prominent personalities.

His latest book, is entitled, "Rev. Fr. Gratian C. Murray, A Faithful Servant," which will be launched in May, this year.*
