In a press statement, Mr. Serge Tan, Lay Coordinator for the Bacolod Diocese leg of the 1st Philippine Visit of the Pilgrim Relics of the couple saints, said that the reliquary containing part of the mortal remains of St. Therese’s parents arrived in Manila yesterday, January 2 and will visit various dioceses in the Philippines until February 28, 2017.
“On its way to Bacolod City, the reliquary shall have brief stops in front of Our Lady of Victory Church, Victorias City; St. Joseph the Worker Parish in E.B.Magalona, San Diego Pro-Cathedral in Silay City, San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish Church in Talisay City and is expected to arrive at Carmel Monastery at 2:30 pm same day,” Tan also added.
Sts. Louis and Zellie Martin, were declared Venerable by then Pope John Paul II in March 1994 and canonized as saints of the Universal Church in October 18, 2015 by Pope Francis. They were the first married couple canonized together as saints in the history of the Catholic Church.
“The couple is showing us that we can become saints even in the “ordinariness” of our daily family life. The way Sts. Louis and Zellie lived their own, they radiated their love for God through their parenthood,” Tan said.
The send-off Mass will be celebrated by Bacolod Bishop Msgr. Patricio A. Buzon, D.D. on January 17, 2017 at 6 am at the San Sebastian Cathedral before a Philippine Airforce plane airlifts the pilgrim reliquary back to Manila.* (MR. SERGE TAN, 0928-507-5450)
