Ceres-USLS Leads Sagay Men’s Open With 2 Wins

Defending champions Ceres-University of St. La Salle FC booked a pair of victories to lead the elimination round in the ongoing 2nd Sagay Men’s Open Championships at the Sagay National High School.

The Norman Fegidero-mentored La Salle side blanked host-Sagay North Negros yesterday, 2-0 on Tristan Kit Robles and Klent Guevarra’s goals to fortify their campaign. The Ceres-backed squad also outplayed University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) in the opening day, 4-0 behind the goals from Regie Brenn Cisneros, Ilemona Usman and pair of goals from Kjay Gedor.

The Sagay squad, on the other hand, trailed at second spot with a win, a loss and a draw. Bannered by several Philippines Football League players, Sagay booked a win over UNO-R, 2-1 after Jerals Paparon and Jimuel Ariola scored in the 2nd and 17th minutes of the match while Paul Ancheta cut the lead in the 40th minute.

Sagay side also stunned visiting Ateneo de Manila University in Day-1 with a 1-all even after Jasper Aguado scored in the 78th minute after William Jay Grierson brought the visitors on an early lead in the 53rd minute.

Reigning tournament runner-up Ateneo shared position with Villa Angela FC on a win and a draw record.

Ateneo defeated Negros Selection yesterday on a 3-1 edge behind Reno Fekliz Gaudiel’s pair of goals as Christian Michael Castillo added another but, was unfortunate with an own goal from Joseph Gerard Poe.

Meanwhile, Villa Angela FC also downed Negros Selection, 3-1 off the goals from Aldrin Dolino (21'), Jaime Poderoso (26') and J Bagiuoro (75') while Adonis Abela connected a goal for the latter squad in the 64th minute. However, Angela drawn UNO-R, 2-all.
