Press club election set
The Negros Press Club (NPC), the oldest press club in the Philippines, will hold its annual general assembly and election of new set of officers at around 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20.
The activity to be held at NPC Building in Bacolod City will be attended by about 150 member-media practitioners in Negros Occidental.
NPC president Renato Duran is set to deliver the club’s accomplishments during his term. These include initiating seminars, sports events, partnerships, and outreach activities, among others geared toward advancing the capabilities of the members and benefitting the community as well.
Among the seminars initiated by NPC in collaboration with various partners include Hiligaynon Proficiency, Media Literacy, Getting Real on Fake News, and Uncovering the Judiciary attended by local media practitioners and students.
To promote camaraderie and unity among the members and their colleagues in the media, the club hosted three sporting activities last year mostly in partnership with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas – Negros Occidental Chapter.
In terms of joint undertakings, NPC has also partnered with the Philippine Press Institute, San Miguel Brewery, and Task Force Kasanag in implementing some initiatives like tree planting and educational symposium.
The club continues to be active in various community outreach activities like “Bags to School” project at Ramon Torres Dulao National High School in Bago City.
It also took part in the celebration of National Book Month of the Provincial Library. Some members participated in the storytelling activity for daycare pupils in the province.
On January 26, NPC will also hold a medical mission that will benefit at least 300 residents of Barangay Pahanocoy through various medical and dental services.
Other regular programs and activities which the current set of officers was able to sustain include health and emergency assistance for the members, annual commemoration of Maguindanao Massacre, and holding of Christmas Party, among others.
Duran earlier said that his dream is to make NPC from a social club to a “caring” club.
“Through active participation of all, especially the officers, the plans were eventually materialized,” Duran said, as he thanked the overwhelming support of the partners.*
