P100K for capture of century-old Lawaan trees’ cutters
Mayor Ernesto Estrao of Hinobaan town in southern Negros Occidental, is offering a P100,000 reward for anybody who could give information that can lead to the arrest of whoever cut the century-old Lawaan trees in Sitio Wilderness, Barangay Damotan, some 60 kilometers away from the town proper.
It was monitored last week by forest guards that the cutters were armed with heavy weapons.
When Task Force Ilahas was informed and was able to reach the area, however, the culprits have already left, but leaving behind two century-old Lawaan trees that were already cut.
According to Mayor Estrao, the area is within the 300-hectare forested land, with only 100 hectares left with standing trees.
So he is offering a P100,000 reward.* (EDITH B. COLMO)
