3 killed, 4 hurt in highway collision

Three persons were killed, including a minor, while four others were injured in a road mishap between a tricycle and an Isuzu Canter at Stop Oso, Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental around 10:00 p.m. Sunday.

Police Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, Cadiz PNP OIC police chief identified the victims as Angelica Montierto Laguna, 27; Zian Niel Gonzales, 4 years old, all of San Antonio, Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City; and Joanna Valero, 25, of Fortunetowne, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.

Injured were Mario Gonzales, 30, common-law husband of Angelica and parent of Zian Niel Gonzales; Mary Grace Castro, 24, single; tricycle driver Gregyn Palma, 49, married, and his daughter Cristalyn Joy Palma, 22, single, both of Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City.

The incident involved three vehicles, a Rusi 125 tricycle and one Rusi 125 single motorcycle driven by Gregyn Palma with his daughter Crystalyn as back-rider.

The tricycle was going home to Bacolod City, while the single motorcycle is also on their way home to Barangay Burgos after attending the Dinagsa Festival.

The tricycle was heading south followed by the single motorcycle when an Isuzu Canter suddenly appeared in a curve on opposite direction and collided with the tricycle. The motorcycle also bumped the tricycle from behind.

The unidentified driver escaped. The Canter was registered to Ramero Diosiana, of Rizal Street, Barangay 29, Bacolod City.

The victims were brought to Cadiz District Hospital but declared dead on arrival, while the injured were later transferred to Bacolod City hospital for further medical treatment.

Police traffic investigator is appealing to the driver to come to their office to shed light on the incident.*(CYRUS M. GARDE)
