‘Contact woman’ in P18-M shabu nabbed

A known “contact woman” in the P18 million confiscated shabu from live-in partners in Dumangas, Iloilo last Sunday evening, was arrested in drug buy bust around 9:15 p.m. Monday at Hacienda Minuluan, Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City.

Police identified the suspect as Corazon Alulud Vergel, 64 “Alias Neneng,” married, who use Rizal-Lopez Jaena Streets, Barangay 27, Bacolod City as her address.

She was arrested by joint elements of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (NOCPPO-PDEU) led by Police Chief Inspector Rogelio Pacificar, Jr. of Talisay police led by Superintendent Adonis Rosales and NOCPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit led by Supt. Robert Lingbawan, Jr.

Confiscated from her were; one small heat sealed transparent plastic sachet of suspected shabu as buy bust item; two elongated and two large heat sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu.

The P500 marked money was also recovered.

She was subjected to buy bust operation after live-in partners Jose Alberto Pinaga, 32, and Maebelle Belmonte, 30, all of Barangay Mambulac, Silay were arrested together with their eight-year-old son in Sitio Alo-oyan, Barangay Sapao, Dumangas port, Iloilo around 11:00 p.m. Sunday.

The couple reportedly went to Manila via Batangas Friday and went back Sunday evening bringing the confiscated shabu of about one kilo and twenty grams with market value estimated at P18 million.

The live-in partners were used by drug lord Michael Divinagracia to get the stocks in Metro Manila and put them in their car and also bring theirs as decoy.

Vergel, on the other hand, was the one to meet them at the port and take the suspected shabu for delivery. She is now detained at Talisay PNP, while the live-in partner in Iloilo City and their 8-year-old son were turned over to Department of Social Services and Development. *(Cyrus M. Garde)
