Maria Regina Ortega, municipal nutrition action officer, said that the 25 elementary school children and 25 daycare children who received the food packs are indigents and underweight.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) prepared the food packs, while the Provincial Health Office Provincial Health Office (PHO) provided multivitamins to the beneficiaries and their mothers.
In addition, PHO personnel also gave out fresh milk to the children.
Ortega said that the objective of the launching is to promote awareness on eating healthy and refraining from unhealthy diets.
“The Nutrition Month aims to make the public conscious in their eating habits so that they can avoid obesity and non-communicable diseases,” she said.
School children from various elementary and secondary schools in Pontevedra made slogans related to the theme for this year’s celebration - “Healthy Diet Gawing Habit For Life!”
Various activities are lined up for the entire month, Ortega said, which include a nutri-quiz, cooking contest, feeding program, search for Mr and Ms Nutrition, deworming in schools and a poster-making contest.
The Nutrition Month launching was held simultaneously with the launching of the National Disaster Consciousness Month.* (CBA/PIA6-Negros Occidental)
