The 116th Independence Day celebration in Bacolod City Public Plaza will start at 8:00 AM today and the program at BAYS Center starts at 8:30 AM. While the most awaited annual Grand Parade is at 1:00 PM to be participated by all sectors of the Bacolod society.*(file photo)

Independence Rites at the Plaza will start at 8:00 AM while the program at BAYS Center starts 8:30 AM.

This will be the first official and public appearance of Paduano after taking oath as the official Abang Lingkod Party List Representative and Bacolod City is privileged to hear his Philippine Independence Day message, Gamboa said.

Paduano likewise will lead the wreath laying to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier together with members of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, Bacolod City officials, 303rd Brigade Philippine Army, Bacolod City Police Office, Bacolod City government personnel and their department heads, public and private schools and Bacolod’s private citizens, among others.

An invitation was also sent to Senator JV Ejercito but as of press time, he has not indicated confirmation.

The Bacolod Public Plaza Independence Day Rites is very significant, Gamboa explained, because of the cultural richness seen in the Philippine Flag raising and symbolism of the wreath laying to the Monument of Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

"It is unfortunate that problems continue to beset and hound the country even after the hoisting of the Philippine National Flag in 1898. For as long as the Philippine Flag remains hoisted however, we, the Filipino people continue to enjoy freedom in solving these problems," he explained.

"The wreath laying, on the other hand, is our way of remembering and paying tribute to those who shed blood and died serving this country in battle.

Those who died for many reasons may be unknown to many but their victory and bravery will not be forgotten by this generation and the generations to come," Gamboa also explained.

Meantime, Gamboa reflected that this year’s 116th Philippine Independence Day Celebration’s theme "Pag-sunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago," is urging all to remember the footsteps, the blood shed by the Filipinos’ noble forefathers for this nation to be free.

These thoughts, he explained, are embodied in the traditional annual Grand Parade held 1:00 PM participated by all sectors of the Bacolod society.

The Bacolod City’s 116th Philippine Independence Day Parade will feature school bands, public and private school delegations, military and police units, patriotic organizations, City and Barangay Officials and respective departments, civil societies, civic groups, the private business sectors, among others.*
