Father Commits Suicide in Murcia
A 42-year-old father committed suicide by shooting himself using a .45 caliber at their house in Purok Lerio, Barangay Cansilayan, Murcia town in Negros Occidental at dawn yesterday, June 14.
Police Senior Inspector Lawrence Gerard Bathan, Murcia PNP chief identified the victim as Ernest Edward Olberio, resident of the barangay. He was last seen playing billiard alone at their groundfloor around 2:30 a.m.
In front of their house is another house wherein a vigil of a dead relative is being held where they heard gunshot.
The victim was discovered by his sister Johanna who came to the place, coming from Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City. He sustained gunshot wound in the head from .45 caliber firearm.
The victim’s relatives have no knowledge why he committed suicide. His wife is an Overseas Filipino Worker in Dubai and is set to arrive home on July 5 after two years.
Investigation disclosed that the victim has sent message through in cellular phone to his wife “indi ko na maagwanta (I can no longer bear)” without elaborating what he meant.
The couple have four children ages 13, 9, 8 and 5 years old.
This is the second suicide incident in the province this week.
Last Monday around 6:00 a.m., an employee of Fiscal’s Office in Cadiz City was also discovered hanging on a rope inside his room in Grandville Phase 2, Barangay Daga, Cadiz City.
The death of Luis Mijares, 54, single, was first reported that he succumbed to cardiac arrest.
But Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP OIC chief clarified it was suicide after they conducted investigation.
Manzano said the victim was depressed over his personal problem that he could no longer bear. Manzano added that the victim had tried to commit suicide twice.*
