A policeman allegedly involved in the death of a person detained at Escalante City PNP was disarmed and restricted while appropriate charges will be filed against him in court.
Police Officer 1 Leonardo Delloso, member of Escalante City Alert team denied manhandling the victim identified as Jason Bringuez, “Alias Jingle”, of legal age, resident of Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City.
Jason reportedly died in Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, June 11, two days after he was brought on Thursday, June 9.
He reportedly suffered internal injuries allegedly after he was manhandled inside the jail.
He was brought to Dr. Vicente Gustilo Memorial District Hospital in the City, but was later transferred to a Bacolod City hospital.
Superintendent Leonardo Borromeo, Escalante City OIC police chief said the two are friends being neighbours in Barangay Balintawak. He ordered to investigate the incident and disarmed Delloso.
Borromeo said Delloso told him that the victim is also the suspect who assaulted him in front of the police station using his bolo Thursday evening and even ried to grab his service firearm after they grappled for the bolo.
Sensing the situation, Delloso told Borromeo that he squeezed his firearm and it went off where victim immediately distanced from him.
He was later detained at the Escalante City Jail.
Earlier, the victim who was drunk acted unruly in front of the police station that awakened Delloso, a member of Alert Team. He told Bringuez to go home as he was drunk, but the victim challenged him to come back, which he did, armed with a bolo. He signalled Delloso to come near him which resulted to the grappling.*
