Montalbo overpowered My Spaghetti House, 74-64 to capture the inaugural Class
C title in the 10th Tan KeK Pin Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament at Po hang
Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
The 13-year old, secondary level Palarong Pambansa veteran finished with a game
high 27 points with 19 he scored in the second quarter that led JKT to an undefeated
record.
My Spaghetti House took the lead at 9-2 behind Fr. Clarence Canafe low post
moves netting him 6 points, but JKT rallied to cut the lead 11-10 led by Siote
Diente inside points and Chingsan Su floaters and the rebounding and defensive
stops provided by Judge Paolo Ariola.
But Spaghetti shifted to another gear and took advantage of their quickness
and fast break points to pull away by the end of the first quarter, 21-12.
Joshua Co scored 11 points and Fr. Canafe added 8 for My Spaghetti, while Diente
and Chingsan Su had 6 and 4 points respectively for JKT.
JKT clawed their way back on a 12-3 run behind Kib Montalbo fastbreak attacks
and David Tan perimeter shots and a John Dustin Chua layup tying the game at
24-all at the 5:59 minutes mark.
Montalbo displayed his inside and outside game as he rattled off 11 straight
points to give JKT a 35-26 lead.
Another Montalbo triple and Celhelm Uy layup gave JKT their biggest lead in
the first half at 12. The half ended at 40-29.
Supporting Montalbo were Celhelm Uy with 5 points while John Dustin Chua and
Victor Go Jr. had big contributions in the defensive end as well as control
of the boards at both ends of the court.
In the 3rd quarter, back-to-back trey by Spaghetti Deony-son Dy cut the lead
to 37-44 but JKT’s Brian Tan scored 4 points to put the lead back to 11.
Fr. Canafe scored 7 of the next 12 points for Spaghetti as they cut the lead
55-49 a end of the third quarter.
Spaghetti Bol Manaloto’s two layup drives opened the final canto to draw
closer at 55-53, but Celhelm Uy triple and a Montalbo bank shot gave JKT some
breathing room for a 7-point lead.
Ralph Richard Tan hit a trey to cut the lead anew to 64-58 with 5:18 minutes
left but JKT limited Spaghetti to only 6 points the rest of the way as they
scored in return on a 5-0 run with John Dustin Chua hitting a trey and John
Monte-mayor layup while Victor Go Jr. scored the last 5 points.
Backstopping Montalbo were Celhelm Uy with 8, Victor Go Jr. 7, Siote Diente
6 and John Montemayor and John Dustin Chua had 5 points each.
Fr. Clarence Canafe paced Spaghetti with 17 points, Manaloto added 16, Joshua
Co who sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter still contributed 14, Deonyson
Dy 6 and Arvin Chua had 5.

Today’s schedule game will be the second day of the round robin semifinal
in Class B with Talisay City going up against PD888 Tropics Restobar in the
first game while Fil-Sino Selection meets BBC in the second game.*
