3 Killed, 2 Hurt in Escalante Strafing
Three persons were slain, while two others were treated at Vicente Gustilo
District Hospital (VGDH) after a member of the Police Auxilliary Unit (PAU) of
Escalante City went on a shooting rampage early yesterday morning in Barangay
Alimango.
Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, Negros Occidental Police Provincial
Office (NOPPO) spokesman, identified the casualties as Rogelio Mapa, 26, Cyrus
Escubilla, 17, Roy Arnesto, 17, all of Sitio Lawis, Brgy. Alimango, while
Anthony
Aberio, 40, of Brgy. Old Poblacion and Edward Anciano were still under
treatment at VGDH.
The suspect was identified as Diolito Cabanyog, 26, of Brgy. Pinapugasan who
fled immediately after the incident bringing with him an M16 rifle believed to
be used in the shooting. Recovered from the crime scene were 11 empty shells of

NOPPO reports revealed that Cabanyog, believed to be under the influence of
intoxicating liquor, had an argument with his fellow PAU member identified as
Anciano that led to a grappling incident outside their police outpost in the
area.
Santotome further stated that the suspect was able to get hold of the M16 rifle
and shot the victims. Mapa and Escubilla were pronounced dead-on-arrival by
attending physicians, as Arnesto died while under treatment at Teresa Jalandoni
Memorial
Hospital in Silay City. Aberio and Anciano are reportedly out of danger
but still confined at the said hospital.
Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix, NOPPO director, ordered Police Chief
Inspector Santiago Y. Rapiz, Escalante City Police Station Chief, to exert all
