Villamor Confident for Nietes’ Title Defense in Pinoy Pride 30

Current World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes (34, 20 KOs-1-4) is 100 per cent ready for the much-awaited title defense for the Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Saturday.

Edmund Villamor disclosed this yesterday stating that they have prepared Nietes well in this fight and have scouted Mexican Gilberto Parra (19, 17KOs-2-0).

“We are confident with Nietes however we don’t want to be complacent because, Mexicans are fighters and sluggers. They can engage toe-to-toe during the match,” the veteran coach said.

Parra, the reigning World Boxing Association Fedelatin light flyweight champion, is tough and a knockout artist. Among those suffered devastating knockouts in the hands of Parra are fellow Mexicans Abraham Ramos (2nd round), Jose Isabel Gomez (3rd round), and Ricardo Armenta (2nd round).

For Nietes, he will do his best to keep his title and continue give honor to the Filipino people.

Fighting in the co-main card is Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (33, 21KOs-3-0) who will be facing Brazilian William Prado (22, 15KOs-4-1) for the vacant NABF super bantamweight title, while unbeaten International Boxing Federation Intercontinental super bantamweight champion “Prince” Albert Pagara (22, 15KOs-0) will defendhis belt against Mexican Rodolfo Hernandez (26, 24KOs-5-1).
