POLICE REPORTS

Man Arrested for Wearing PNP Uniform

A 31-year-old resident of Zone 10 in Talisay City was apprehended by Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) - Special Operations Task Force yesterday afternoon for alleged illegal use of police uniform at the Talisay City Public Market.

Romeo Claver Jr., according to reports, was arrested for illegal use of the Philippine National Police (PNP) camouflage uniform in public while driving his tricycle without proper authorization.

Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, NOPPO spokesman, said that Claver’s act constituted violation of Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) or the illegal use of police uniforms and insignias.

Violators of the said provision of the Revised Penal Code could face a maximum of two years in jail if found guilty, he added.

Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix, NOPPO director, reiterated that the campaign against civilians using PNP uniforms including those with “POLICE” markings which was announced last month is a preemptive measure after the reports of criminal elements donning police and military uniforms when they implement their illegal activities. The public is continuously warned to observe this directive and to take it seriously for penalty will be served for those who will defy the law.* (RRM)
