Thousands of SSS Pensioners were badly hit when PNoy vetoed the SSS pension increase. Unfortunately, this unpopular decision will affect the lives of millions of SSS pensioners throughout the country, contrary to the supporters of Mar Roxas that it will not affect the candidacy of the latter.
In Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella when interviewed by the media expressed his sympathy for SSS pensioners who were dismayed over PNoy’s decision. He recalled that during his term in Congress, he co-authored with Congressman Crispin Beltran, House Bill 6278, an Act Increasing the Monthly Benefits of Members and Pensioners as well. In the 13th Congress Congressman Monico then filed House Resolution 1202, an inquiry in aid of legislation of the pension programs not only of SSS but GSIS, with the end result of Increasing the pension of the retirees. During the 14 Congress, he co-authored with Congressman Art Defensor House Bill 1743, an Act limiting the investment of funds of SSS to those that assure predictability in order to protect SSS members.
